Our new studio, FPC, has released a gameplay video for our upcoming MMORPG. See what 1 year of dev with 25 people looks like! youtube.com/watch?v=v5ZAFt…

I am frequently surprised by how poorly Gemini is tied into the rest of the G suite. Like you’d think that was how they win It will tell me a setting that isn’t where it said it’d be. It once offered me a Slides template that was impossible to build without Photoshop. Etc Etc

Thanks everyone who was giving feedback on League classic good and bad. We're working hard on processing everything and we'll back with updates soon(tm). For those of you playing on PBE, have fun on the rift and keep the feedback coming.

@Yelfa7 @oheyspun I’d say the chance for any game that starts to actually ship is about 10 to 20%. Probably even less for MMOs. I saw Blizzard and Riot cancel dozens of R&D projects

"Shared Online Persistant World" is the literal ONLY defining trait of an MMO. And I will die on this hill. Everything else is a feature, and that is okay. We don't have to all enjoy the same games. GW3 is an MMO. Destiny 2 is an MMO, maybe not an MMORPG. Nit-picking definitions and genres is embarrassing.

@StreetOutlaw I apologize for banning you. We didn’t have a lot of support for forum management and I was barely treading water at times. I do like boxing though.

@Ghostcrawler You remember me? You deleted all my tweets during BC cause I called you out on your bullshit. Then you banned me on the blizzard forums but when Ion didn't delete my tweet or ban me on elitestjerks forum you unbanned me on the blizz forums. But then went on to nerf Teemo.

I am so sorry for my friends at Bungie. This industry has been such a long dark road lately.

@three__a__m In the last MMO I was working on, we were going to make race completely cosmetic. It’s hard these days to make any kind of power so trivial that players won’t care. Whether as a dev you like that or not, it’s not something you can realistically change.

@three__a__m It’s not that many players can even perform to the level where these differences would affect them (i.e. it’s well within the noise) but players still care so they still chase them.

@Ghostcrawler Something I've always wondered, how do you view metagaming when making live service games? I vaguely remember a video from years ago talking about the tension between "Game A" (what studios release) VS "Game B" (what players do with it). As a player...(1/1)

I was a good but not great student. I skated by in high school by being able to write fast and well, but I never developed good study skills and that bit me in college. Entry biology (I had a double major in biology and philosophy) is all memorization, which I was bad at.

@bloore37 @Ahwhwh2740394 The former works well for open world and the latter for more corridor-based gameplay (like an fps) where every inch of geometry placement matters.

@Ghostcrawler @Ahwhwh2740394 I assume it depends on the game but which one do you think works better? Designers placing artists’ props or artists making layouts look nice

@KatDoes3D Try to objectively think about why a designer made a particular choice in a game. What were they trying to get a player to do? How did they want a player to feel? What else could they have done that might also deliver on those same goals?

Hello, actual game designers. Wannabe game designer, here. How do I pursue an actual understanding of game design? How do I learn more for real? The last thing on EARTH I want to do is form gamer opinions, and I'm super interested in design. Where do I start? 🩷

@BenPielstick Agree it is presented in boring ways. The way they explained the why was like you were learning a language that you needed to talk to other scientists. You should just know the forms that nitrogen takes in water and the average absolute amounts of each

@Ghostcrawler Learning without purpose was my biggest complaint throughout school. Instructors could never explain why what they were teaching was important for me to learn besides learning for the sake of learning and getting passing grades. Content was also presented in the most boring ways.

I think a lot about the nature of learning these days when most games are required to teach you how to play, and the best ones do it in a way that sucks you in rather than a big Play The Tutorial button. /thread

I can still identity hundred of plants, birds and fish, and perhaps thousands of species of marine invertebrates (crustaceans, mollusks and worms). For some reason that part of memorization clicked with me. But foreign languages never did and I remain frustratingly mono lingual.

@SandyofCthulhu @MacdonaldJonald I had to change from DeathShrimp to Ghostcrawler through a quirk of the Blizzard forums where your posting name needed to match your account name and someone had already claimed DeathShrimp (no doubt because of me)

@SandyofCthulhu @MacdonaldJonald Yes Sandy was my mentor (and friend) at Ensemble, which was my first job in gaming. We bonded over arthropods because I studied crustaceans and he arachnids. And we played a lot of board games at lunch.
