UPDATE: The leadership of the police and Home Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal have met with the leadership of the Congolese Solidarity Campaign in Durban. According to a government statement, the meeting was aimed at ironing out issues which led to the foreign nationals, mostly from DR Congo, camping and protesting outside the Durban Central police station on Monday and Tuesday. During the meeting, the Congolese leadership pointed a finger at Home Affairs for rendering them undocumented due to discrepancies in the process of renewing permits. Home Affairs explained the process of the renewal of the permits, and committed to assist those whose permits have expired and have proof of application for renewal. Those with expired permits were reminded of the process of visiting the refugee centre, get processed, go to a police station, get charged and appear in court. The Department of Home Affairs and the police will convene another meeting with the disgruntled group on Thursday, 21 May 2026 to verify their status in the country and their permits to conduct business in South Africa, including addressing their safety concerns - KZN Tonight Podcast
