@danwat1234 Daniel: Just to clarify for the record. I was Norton's newer utility "Calibrate" which was a "too close" clone of SpinRite — which incorporated some of SpinRite's deepest internal code verbatim. Not Norton Disk Doctor. :)

@GibsonResearch 1/2 But NDD performs totally different tasks than Spinrite. NDD repairs file system (logical) issues, Spinrite does not. NDD just performs a simple READ surface scan to remap bad sectors in the filesystem and hopefully trigger a reallocation by the drive's firmware. /continued

@fredericktownes Hi Frederick! Of COURSE you're welcome to have your money back. SpinRite v6.1 will work on your 10TB drive without trouble (full scan <5 hrs. based upon v6.1 benchmarks.) It's coming, but it's not here yet. Contact GRC sales and we'll refund your license purchase! No problem! :)

@GibsonResearch just picked up a license for SpinRite v6 today and learned the hard way that my 10TB drive cannot benefit from it. is v6.1 forthcoming (a man can hope) or is a refund the next step?

@billiam70 Hi Lyn. Yes, SpinRite is alive and well and that upgrade you're asking about after 18 years will be 100% free! v6.1 is under active development and it's coming along well. We'll be notifying all existing v6.0 owners once it's ready! :) (But no idea when.)

@fredericktownes Hey Frederick: SpinRite v6.1 =IS= forthcoming. It's all I'm working on and it's moving forward. You can watch its new core drivers work on that 10TB drive with the “ReadSpeed” benchmark, which uses them. I'm in the process of pulling it all together! :)

@GibsonResearch How can I help with Spinrite development testing? I've got many varieties of"dead" HDDs. I'm especially interested in direct to drive operation (not via bios). Of course 32 mb r/w will be sweet too.

@collinchaffin @SGgrc Collin: Whatever that EXE is, it's NOT GRC's DNSBench.exe. The size is wrong. DNSBench.exe is so popular that it's a perfect target to be spoofed as malware. People =must= only obtain it from GRC!

@chuhaitime Robert... A 1TB SSD should be no problem for SpinRite, though it would need to be placed on a system where it can be seen. Perhaps check the BIOS for enabling? You did everything right, and a x16 PCIe adapter ought to be fine! :)

@DavidBatty David: Yes for SpinRite on MicroSD card... *IF* it's plugged into the machine when you go into the BIOS and the BIOS can "see" the card as a drive. Then SpinRite will too. :)

@PLNX107 It's the "EXITCODE" that's set by InSpectre. You can capture that in the BATCH file or PowerShell which runs InSpectre.

@Genlman Frank: This page suggests that the Intel Penryn Wolfdale (2008-2009) E8300 processor is also vulnerable to Meltdown and Spectre until it's patched. I think that ALL Intel chips were always Meltdown vulnerable? Only AMD inherently prevented Meltdown. bit.ly/2EC5ai5

@UnderDogMiller Hi Dave. Sorry that SR v6 didn't like that drive's partitioning. v6.1 will FOR SURE. That's one of its main targets! :)

@Luv2Live_Indy Hi Jake: Yes. I'm finishing up the SQRL project, then I'll be switching back to work on v6.1. I had benchmarked the new code at 500GB/hour..
