@AS_Corpus Using the digital version writing my dissertation for an MA in Medieval Literature and Culture at Birkbeck...with gratitude🙏

So, first things first, what do you utilise The Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Stone Sculpture for? How does it inform your studies? In what capacity does it feature in your research? Do you usually consult the hard-copies or instead use the digital version (corpus.awh.durham.ac.uk)?

@AS_Corpus Good to see my favourite angel...really must get on with that dissertation...

The Angel, too, is unusual for its stress on male features like facial hair. He has 4 wings: 2 upwards behind his head, 2 falling behind him like a cloak. His left arm is raised in what might be a gesture of benediction, although this area has been damaged.

The Christ child, on her lap and holding a book in his hands, turns to look directly out at the viewer. Christ's book is mirrored in the book also held by the angel on the other side. 📕

This document was written in 1349, during the Black Death, the bubonic plague pandemic. #WhyArchives? Because anyone can visit us and we will put this in their hands and nearly 700 years dividing human from human is bridged. That's a wonderful thing to be able to do. #Archive30
