I was just thinking of Christmases in the 1970s, when your folks had a ‘party’.
Drinks would be Dubonet, (right posh, innit?) Babycham, Party Seven cans, and of course Advocaat. (Why?)
Nibbles would (inevitably) be cheese squares impaled on toothpicks, sometimes with tiny onions, other times pineapple chunks. There might be chicken legs (rubbery texture was a must) and crisps and nuts in bowls. Perhaps some twiglets too. The place would be thick with Number 6 smoke. We youngsters would be prowling about swigging from any leftover bottles/glasses. Except the Advocaat. 🤢 and hunting down any chocolate liqueurs not snaffled by Gran.
Happy Christmas to all you mad, glorious people
Wishing you all the very best of the season, however you celebrate it, and love to you all for making this hellsite Fabulous

Got my four candles...
@City_Xtra@PStewy103@david_white7 Watched this from the Kippax. Huddersfield were definitely the better side until McNab scored. Remember seeing Malcolm McDonald interviewed after the game. He looked dumbfounded as to how his team had capitulated.
I was looking at my shots of TB1 and suddenly noticed that I'd, very expertly, stuck two of the undercarriage flaps on the wrong way around. Fortunately, having used highly scientific Blu tack, and not the sticky pads supplied, disaster has been averted.
Phew! 😎
@BBCSteveR I was in Leningrad on my year abroad from Durham University. I think I found out about events in Berlin from one of the American students in our hostel who’d heard it on Voice of America.
Where were you when the Berlin Wall fell 35 years ago today? I was in Moscow on my year abroad from Leeds University. I remember watching the dramatic images from Germany on a tiny Soviet TV set in my room. I couldn’t imagine that in two years the USSR would be gone, too.
And just like that a career of 16 years has finished. All i have worked for since i was 10 is now just a memory. Paris-Chauny was my last race as a Pro. But like always, the end of one thing is the beginning of something new. Looking forward to discover new challenges.
@northernassist Shout out to the 2 staff on the 0828 from Shipley to Leeds this morning tending to a passenger who gashed their leg boarding the train. Quick and thorough response to assist.
Some sad news. My father (and @skeevyd ‘s), Brian Trueman, has died. 92 years of happy life. A career in television and radio that included Children's Hour, Clitheroe Kid, Scene at 6.30, Granada Reports, Brass Tacks, Screen Test…
@mytagimoucia What a fantastic view. We’ve a heavily silted up mill pond to the back of our house but there’s something magical at dusk and dawn about all stretches of water.
My home view living in #Kiribati 🇰🇮 This afternoon while enjoying the sunset, a neighbor dropped off a Giant Travelly after a fishing trip 🐟 which I added to my collection in the freezer 😁 #FishforDays 🤩
@LisaForteUK So if I began learning Russian in the 1980s, I must be a sleeper agent, and a very deep one at that. The reality is it sounded more interesting than German so I signed up.
An internet idiot: “why are you learning Russian when you’re not going to Russia? Are you pro Russia now?”
Me: looking at all the many other countries with Russian as a first or second language because, you know, the Soviet Union was a thing and stuff…..then silently screaming
@LisaForteUK@alpha_juliet It’s a least worst scenario isn’t it? As a successful female your experience on these platforms will be significantly more negative than mine.
It's that time again!
