Personally, one day from the holy day of Easter, I find it repugnant that Trump is threatening "all hell" to be unleashed on the people of Iran and then double the insult by feigning "glory be to GOD," -- especially given that Jesus, whose resurrection from the dead Christians will be celebrating tomorrow is known as 'The Prince of Peace' This is no way to fight a war. It might be a way to *lose* one, however. Whether one wants to talk about the British ppl defiant in the face of NAZI bombing in World War II, or the German and Japanese ppl never succumbing to fire bombing in the same war, the North Vietnamese ppl's refusal to be bombed into the stone age, the North Korea ppl's resilience in the face of near eradication of all their cities in 1953, or the unwillingness of the Palestinians and Lebanese to submit to relentless Israeli bombing since 2023, the pattern is the same: massive bombing of a population does NOT force it into submission. If President Trump thinks a one month-plus bombing campaign is going to compel the Iranian ppl to submit to his will - especially after those same Iranians have *already proven* an ability to sustain hundreds of thousands of combat deaths in the U.S.-backed Iran/Iraq war 1980-88 - he will be, again, proven wrong. But its not just about him being proven wrong, its about the potentially significant numbers of Iranians who will die in the process, or, if he doesn't care about those human beings, maybe he should consider he'll also pointlessly sacrifice American service members and Israeli citizens as well (and if things go woefully south, maybe large numbers of GCC states' populations as well. This war of choice has all but effectively been lost by the U.S. and Israel. The only question now: will we deepen our loss or suck down meaningful amounts of pride and hubris, but take an ugly diplomatic off ramp. Pretty sure we know the answer to that...

Le problème des flottilles, et de bien des formes de militantisme contemporain, tient à leur théâtralité hors-sol. Ces gens ne s’adressent qu’à eux-mêmes ; quant à leur entre-soi, qu’ils en laissent les spectateurs juger. I love that the first American Pope is the first to mention the 'imperialist occupation of the world'. He spent many years in Peru, amongst the community in Chiclaio. Je ne m’étais jamais intéressé à ce pape, mais en y regardant de plus près, je découvre une différence nette avec son prédécesseur. Ce dernier usait de beaucoup de "prudence" diplomatique. Léon XIV, en revanche, met surtout l’accent sur la structure d’opposition entre le Royaume de Dieu et les royaumes de ce monde. Il prône une Église humble, non-violente et respectueuse des consciences, s’opposant à la domination et à l’endoctrinement. Sa tonalité, plus géopolitique et théologique pure, le conduit à parler d’« occupation impérialiste », de « violence démasquée », de « croix subversive ». Intéressant ! Et à suivre…

Does anyone still remember that in January 2022, Russia sent troops into Kazakhstan? That operation was a huge success for Russia. Russia put down the large scale roit, propped up the current president Tokayev, and completely pushed the old president Nazarbayev's influence out of Kazakh politics. I now believe that Putin's decision to launch a surprise raid on Kyiv's airport in February 2022 was deeply influenced by that success. And clearly, Trump's decision to take action against Iran is similarly tied to the success he had in Venezuela just two months earlier. So, as the Chinese saying goes, a loss may turn out to be a gain and a gian may turn out to be a loss, you never know. 塞翁失马焉知祸福.

Further, they lied to us by claiming the Iranian regime was "as weak as it has been in 47 years" prior to the war, implying that all we needed was a hard push and they'd collapse. That obviously didn't happen either, and now here we are, with a rising casualty count, increasing numbers of combat losses - now into the many billions of dollars - and the allegedly weak Iranian government and military firmly in control of the Strait of Hormuz. We have no military means to force it open, and we've forfeited the option of negotiations, because we twice lied to Iran about good-faith diplomacy, only to reveal that we used it as cover to launch military ops. This is the bitter fruit of fraud and arrogance. I fear we've yet to find out how deep the cost will be before this war finally comes to an end.
