@Cau3cau3 @RobUsdin @SIRIUSXM I just found the answer. It’s all week until Friday! Which is really annoying. I too like Luke. But I’m meh on these artist stations. I want my genre stations untouched.

@RobUsdin @GingerGibson @SIRIUSXM Had the same question. Has Luke taken over the station for a while? Hope it’s back soon - my favorite Sirius station

Can some other @SIRIUSXM subscriber explain to me what’s happening to the Y2Kountry station? Today it has played the Eagles and Billy Joel and I don’t think either of those qualify as country from the start of the century. They’re not bad. Just not what I expected.

Right. The proper role for AI in journalism is as a writing assistant: “Here’s the reporting that I, the human journalist, did by beating the bushes and building relationships. Here are my notes on the structure of the article. Gimme a first draft.”
Ginger Gibson@GingerGibson

AI has the ability to amazing things for the journalism industry. But it can’t build relationships with sources. It can’t get its finger on the pulse of a community. It can’t sit in the back of a school board meeting to meet the parents impacted by a policy change.

@mitchprothero @aseitzwald I used to write code to process data in Access for data projects. Most journalists don’t have those skills. Now they can utilize AI to help them do it. That’s just one example. There will be many uses if done right.

@GingerGibson @aseitzwald I don’t trust smart people I personally know to get things right without at least eyeball checks. I can’t use a single fact from Wikipedia in a story without looking it up myself. I’ll trust math to sift data but I already have math. Etc etc etc.

Alex Seitz-Wald@aseitzwald

The one thing AI can’t do is report. It’s really good at collecting and synthesizing information already on the internet, but it can’t get a fresh quote, pick up the phone or go witness something.

@mitchprothero @aseitzwald I think newsrooms need to figure all this out. I use AI pretty regularly in my life post journalism. It’s getting better and better. There are ways to verify output. And there are ways we can train computers to do things.

@Neda_Semnani You are correct. It’s not going to be creative. But it is a tool. And a powerful and helpful tool if used correctly. Newsrooms need more than creativity. And they’re sorely lacking in resources. News outlets need to leverage all the tools they can get.

@mitchprothero @aseitzwald It can’t do those things with a push of a button — people will still be needed. But these are things newsrooms used to be better at that were lost over the last 20 years.

@UVAFootballFan @whiskeybaarrell Right, Spanberger won despite not having a good answer on culture war issues, not because she didn't have a good answer on culture war issues.

@whiskeybaarrell @GingerGibson If you had talked to the entire Senate and House GOP caucuses in Richmond in July 2025, you would have been lucky to find 3 total legislators who thought Sears would win. Even the electeds were telling people off the record that the Sears campaign was a total joke.

@KNachtigall Not at all. The solution is to have a straightforward and reasonable answer. How should Democrats answer, "That's absurd, no one is forcing children to change genders or hiding from parents. No, we aren't allowing men into girls lockerooms. We are treating everyone with respect."

@GingerGibson So we’ll be doomed to play into the Republican playbook and lose winnable races by continuing to let the rich divide the rest of us.
