So despite rumors, he wasn't running out of money — but what happens to that cash now?

@allTshirtsGot True (on the historical point, not candidate quality). Though parties today are very different from what they were in 70s and before

@aseitzwald It's basically how all candidates were chosen before the 1970s. I can't honestly swear I believe popular primaries produce categorically better candidates.

The electorate in this race is now 601 convention delegates, elected by registered Democrats (primary was open to indies too) who chose to show up to county caucuses this weekend. The process self-selects for the most committed, involved, high-information Dems. That creates political incentives for candidates that might be quite different from a traditional primary, where you're simultaneously doing persuasion and mobilization, trying to reach low-information and/or independent voters, each of whom often have heterodox political views.

New: All 7 Democrats trying to replace Graham Platner say #ICE should be abolished. After the deadly shooting in #Biddeford, they're criticizing Susan Collins' vote for ICE funding. Collins' team says Dems are politicizing a tragedy @bangordailynews bangordailynews.com/2026/07/14/pol…

@Bitter_Levival @daveweigel You mean the time a previously little known socialist come out of nowhere to thoroughly embarrass Hillary and come shockingly close to winning the nomination. Yes, the DNC sure showed its devious might then.

@daveweigel @jamesstout I agree but now it’s taking every bone in my body to not QT this saying “🚨 preeminent political reporter says he’s a big fan of people just QTing what the tweet said to repeat it says and get their own engagement.”

If you see someone on here claiming to be a reporter and using the fucking siren emoji to repeat a story reported and broken by someone else, unfollow.

While the investigation of the Biddeford shooting is not yet complete, it raises sufficient critical questions that I spoke with DHS Secretary Mullin last night and urged him to cease all non-urgent vehicle stops.

Jackson said he, Bellows, Shah and Wood were invited. "Nobody should be shut out of a U.S. Senate debate because of an arbitrary threshold based on the results of an entirely different race," he said, advocating for Kleban, Loud, Costello and Dickerson to be on stage as well

Yep. If you're a DHS bureaucrat or Republican chair of a relevant subcommittee, his might be a rare Dem statement you'll even bother reading. Why should we care what a DHS bureaucrat or Republican chair of a relevant subcommittee thinks? Because they're the ones in charge right now. And if you want to change policy, you need to get the people in charge to listen.

@vicki4088389843 Exactly. Every other Democrat's response to this will be entirely predictable while his is more notable because he's been a rare Dem supporter of border security and ICE funding

@aseitzwald During his time in Congress, Jared has consistently voted, often against his own party, to strengthen border security and to provide more resources for the men and women in uniform that keep our country and our communities safe. golden.house.gov/issues/law-enf…

Political history knowers: Is there any precedent for the Maine Senate candidate swap in the modern primary era? Best I can come up with is when a nominee has died, like Paul Wellstone in 2002.

INBOX: Rep. Jared Golden says DHS must make body cameras a priority for ICE. “Unfortunately, the ICE officers involved in this incident were not yet wearing body cameras, which could have helped to establish those necessary facts."

Despite placing behind Jackson in the 1st round, Shenna Bellows would've easily beat Jackson in a hypothetical final round. Jackson dominated his home of Aroostook County, but failed to gain traction in the rest of the state, even losing CD-2 by 10
