The undersigned human rights organizations welcome the recommendation by the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (#SCA) of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) to downgrade #Egypt’s National Human Rights Institution (#NHRI), the #NationalCouncilforHumanRights, to Grade B. Previously, the Council had been granted A status by the SCA in 2006 and 2018, which did not reflect the Council’s lack of compliance with international standards. The decision to grant the Council B status therefore reflects growing international concerns over its compliance with the Paris Principles and marks an important step towards ensuring national institutions adhere to international standards regarding independence and effectiveness. Grateful for the opportunity to engage with the Egyptian delegation at the 81st #ACHPR session in Banjul. However, I hope next time they’ll provide more substantial information beyond simply saying, ‘We don’t have political detainees.’ @MfaEgypt

The landmark ICJ ruling about Israel's illegal annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories should mean a drastic change of EU policy. Together with 20 colleagues, we are urging @vonderleyen and @JosepBorrellF to make sure the EU complies with international law.

The international community should support, not marginalize them. Today, @DIGNITY_INT is at @UN_HRC highlighting torture in #Egypt. We call on the #EU to respect, protect, and fulfill the right to be free from torture

DIGNITY is horrified to hear of the killing of Dana Yaghi, a human rights defender from @pchrgaza. According to PCHR, Dana Yaghi and several of her family members were killed by an Israeli air strike. The relentless attacks on civilians in #Gaza must stop.

Reports of torture and other inhumane treatment of detained Palestinians in Gaza are surfacing. We asked our legal advisor about the cases and possible avenues for accountability for the victims for these alleged crimes. dignity.dk/en/news/qa-all…

If the Court decides that there is no ground to proceed it will trigger further destabilization internationally, it further legitimises the use of violence and acts of wars. It will feed into a widening of the conflict in the Middle East #EndIsraelsGenocide #EndIsraelGenocide

South Africa taking this step is no coincidence. Europe might have forgotten what Nazism was (and not recognise how the indiscriminate violence against civilians, the collective punishment are the same that defined the Nazi), South Africa's memory of apartheid is still fresh.

Today the ICJ will look at the case brough forward by South Africa and other countries alleging Israel is committing genocidal acts in Gaza. Today the Court will decide whether the case can move forward, so it will not decide on its merit. #EndIsraelGenocide

Israel has falsely claimed that ‘the IDF does not hit hospitals’. @alhaq_org has footage of an IOF strike on the Al-Ahli Hospital cancer ward on 14 Oct (see image stills), and WHO has reported 59 attacks on healthcare in Gaza and 137 across the Occupied Territory since 7 Oct.

Preliminary analysis by FA, @alhaq_org & @earshot_ngo into the #AlAhli hospital blast in Gaza casts significant doubt on IOF claims that the source of the deadly explosion was a Palestinian-fired rocket travelling west to east.
