With the disruption of the pandemic, an FLN focus is more important than ever. #NIPUNBharat, India's FLN mission, aims to get all Class 3 children reading and performing basic math – assessing learning and supporting catch-up will be crucial
Ashish Dhawan@AshishDhawanTCF

#NIPUNBharat underlines the government’s commitment to equip children with foundational #literacy & #numeracy (FLN) skills. As schools reopen, we must prioritise FLN, assess children's FLN levels & accordingly remediate learning. I write in @httweets hindustantimes.com/opinion/a-step…

My IJED essay received a wealth of rich and interesting feedback, which @CGDev has compiled in this symposium. In my postscript I try to dispel some misunderstandings and respond to a few key challenges: cgdev.org/reader/pathway…

Thoughtful but refreshingly direct, @GirinB calls out the collective failure to address poor learning outcomes in his recent essay on #SDG4. In a roundtable w/ @CGDev @riseprogramme, sector leaders shared their reactions. Read the symposium of responses: cgdev.org/blog/symposium….

The Lost Potential Tracker highlights the shocking number of 10-year-olds who have not learned to read since the SDGs were adopted. We urgently need to focus on foundational skills and support the implementation of proven strategies to improve them …ofteaching.s3.eu-west-3.amazonaws.com/index.html#/

@JustinSandefur So at the end of the proverbial day, GPE accounts for 7 percent of aid for basic education or am I misinterpreting? If so, can it therefore not be both pro-basic education and marginal to it?

A National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy is soon to be launched as per the recommendation of #NEP 2020. It aims to ensure that children can read with meaning and do basic math in Grade 3 by 2025. This will lead to improved learning and life outcomes #FLNFridays

The full impact of the crisis on education will take years to understand, but learning losses and funding cuts seem inevitable. A renewed focus on learning, and supporting children to catch up, are urgently needed. Article freely accessible.
