@lvolpic Me too, and I did not do much besides studying but I agree that during the formative years, it is important that some sort of exposure to diversity and exercise could achieve more than just reading a book could do :)

Thoughts on mandatory military service for young men and women in the U.S.? My dad (from Philly) said in the Army he met people from all over the country and came to understand and like them (including Southerners! lol). Also exercise to expend energy, gets them off gaming and social media

Taking a moment to express immense gratitude for everyone who is fighting for science and its future - from advocacy groups and academic centers to policymakers and scientists. But especially the scientists. Your work and your voice matter.

It is disheartening to see today that the strength of international law and humanitarian law no longer seems binding, replaced by the presumed right to overpower others. This is unworthy and shameful for humanity and for the leaders of nations.

NEW: During Columbia University’s Alumni Weekend celebrations, members of Columbia’s faculty and staff surprise the university administration by hanging 35-feet banners that read “Hands off our students”, “Defend Science” and “We will fight back” at the end of acting president Claire Shipman’s address to alumni. Shipman notices the banners on her way out from the address. Within 15 minutes, the university administration takes down the banners and campus security officials confiscate them right after.
