Always great to publish in @MSSEonline🙃 in this one we showed that PICs estimated by HD EMG were reduced by short term unloading but then restored following a retraining period! Congrats @Giovanni_MRTN & @giacomo_valli 👏🏻

@giacomo_valli and I are excited to share our new article showing how central neuromodulation affects force production after short term disuse and its recovery with exercise With @FabioSarto3 @MVFranchi @marconarici @Giusepp40676177 Out on @MSSEonline journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/abst…

We attemped to explain change of muscle stlength after one year using motor unit activation and muscle mass at base line in older adults. Motor unit activation can explain the change of muscle stlength after one year (p=0.004), but mascle mass doesn't (p=0.364).

1. There is no consensus on what overtraining is - you can't define it, but you know it when you see it? 2. Overtraining and "under-recovering" are not the same thing, but they are often seen together. 3. It's all relative... anyone can 'overtrain' just as they can 'under-recover... 4. Not everyone is a pro-athlete, but then not every pro-athlete has the same life demands as a mere mortal (training is there job) 5. See #1

Unless you're a pro athlete, the risk of 'overtraining' is next to zero.

Signals that muscles receive are a "noisy" version of the signals that spinal motoneurons receive But ⚡️Common inputs don't project to all motoneurons of a certain pool They project to clusters that may span across muscles and/or a portion of a muscle doi.org/10.1113/JP2836…
