Hall and Nash have a pretty poor match at Halloween Havoc 98. Which is a surprise, because their WWF matches always tended to deliver. You'd think with Hall being the better worker and the heel, he'd have been able to lead the match better in their 98 matches.

@IANdrewDiceClay True but Rock was a big enough star at that point to have been able to power play Vince into not having HBK as part of the match surely if he didn't like him

IF Ireland were to host a WrestleMania in the future, there would be two options. Croke Park, with a capacity of over 82,000. The backup option would be the Aviva Stadium, with a capacity of over 51,000-60,000 depending on the setup.

@VEL0CITYinc Think he could have stayed in shape til he was 51-52. So if he retired then you're looking at a 2018 retirement. Would have booked him against Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt

@IANdrewDiceClay Bret Hart had just arrived as the super over babyface screwed out of WCW's most hated rival promotion. He surely had to be given top babyface spot. Sting winning automatically set up the next big match. Would Bret v Sting have drawn like Bret v Hogan though...?

After about 14 months of Sting outstarting the nWo at every turn, not getting touched by any heel and being an indestructible force 6 weeks out from Starrcade they got him. A real show of patience of when to show some vulnerability from WCW. The build was so perfect. And then ...

@LeeHAuthor @IANdrewDiceClay The only way it could work is if NWO won the rights to 50 per cent of WCW, so they'd get half of Nitro and half of Thunder. Half of the NWO goes on one show and the rest on the other. Split on ppvs too. The WCW titles are rebranded WCW-NWO titles and split between the shows.

@IANdrewDiceClay I’ve heard Eric Bischoff talk about the brand split idea they had, but I don’t really see how it could have worked.

You almost forget that WCW began branding the company WCW/NWO in 1998. Like everything was the double logo. PPVs, magazines, games, figures. It's how they wanted to be known as a company.

It's very hard to compete against an established successful incumbent. Vince had his problems in places with successful promotions, couldn't draw in World Class, Mid South, Tennessee and Carolinas for years until the popular promotions were near dead. Only still successful place he did draw in were AWA and he had Hogan, Heenan, Ventura, Patera, etc. He drew in places with unsuccessful promotions great. Crockett came to places Vince was by that point established in and they had bigger stars to the average person. Crockett thought they could win with better wrestling, but I don't know of any war won with better wrestling.
Shannon Steward@shogunstewa

It’s strange to me that Crockett wasn’t a bigger success nationally in the late 80s. Don’t get me wrong - they drew big in some places initially and some places like Philly they were able to maintain it. Their tv ratings were good, talent was great, but they should have been selling out around the country. I get them trying to expand because there is no reason it shouldn’t have worked. They had Road Warriors, Rock N Roll, Horsemen etc. There was something for every type of fan. Even that one random fan in the arena who was like “Nelson Royal is here tonight, fuck yeah.”

@elliottswrstlin Steve Austin. Stunning Steve was a technical machine. Stone Cold Steve became biggest draw in wrestling after Hulk Hogan.

@IANdrewDiceClay Suppose it’s no more mental than Volkoff, Backlund, Bundy, Valentine etc being in the “New Generation” roster! I went back and watched every ppv I’d missed in 00s, but I still have a lot of TV to catch up on from those years.

It must have been very strange for all those new WWF fans that started watching in 98-2000 to suddenly seeing all these guys from the early 90s on TV again. Hennig and the nWo were just overnight back on RAW doing 90s shit.

@sheisscherry Put Tyrion Lannister, Michael Schofield and Walter White together and see who can out-think the others first. That's the only way to pick the true top dog.
