Things have been relatively quiet on the US-Iran front lately. On one hand, that’s good — no one is shooting at each other right now. On the other hand, we haven’t seen any real progress toward solving the core issues between the two sides.

The UAE has announced new travel bans, restricting movement to and from Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran. The timing has raised eyebrows, coming amid ongoing regional tensions and the fragile ceasefire situation. This is not exactly a reassuring sign for stability in the Gulf.

The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is finally heading home after one of the longest carrier deployments since the Vietnam War. Its tour took it from the Mediterranean and North Sea (including Oslo, Norway), to the Caribbean, and then back to the Middle East for the Iran conflict.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has prepared a plan for a wave of “short and powerful” strikes against Iran in hopes of breaking the current deadlock in peace negotiations, though President Trump had yet to order any kinetic action as of Tuesday, three sources with knowledge told Axios.

In my view, limited strikes alone are unlikely to achieve that goal. A sustained naval blockade might apply pressure over time, but any direct military action would almost certainly require a ground invasion — a far more costly endeavor, both financially and in human lives.

Trump appears content to keep the naval blockade in place rather than resuming direct strikes or fully pulling back. This raises the question: how long will Iran tolerate this pressure before launching some form of retaliation?

The UAE has officially announced it is leaving OPEC. While the stated reasons are economic, wondering if the decision is also fallout from Iranian attacks during the recent conflict. This raises the question: could other Gulf states quietly follow for similar security reasons?

Trump posted claiming Iran has informed the US it is in a “State of Collapse” and wants the Strait of Hormuz opened while they sort out their leadership situation. From the outside, Iran has appeared fractured, though the full extent of any internal power vacuum remains unclear.

In northern Mali, Tuareg rebels (FLA) and JNIM jihadists have seized the key city of Kidal after coordinated attacks. Russian Africa Corps forces withdrew from the area under a deal with the rebels, handing control to the Tuareg groups (France 24 / AP).

While the situation appears quiet, the US military continues moving supplies and assets into the region. Flight tracking shows no slowdown in cargo flights, and the arrival of the third aircraft carrier (USS George H.W. Bush) adds more firepower nearby.

It’s been relatively quiet on the US-Iran front this morning. No major breakthroughs, or official statements have emerged in the past several hours. The ceasefire remains expired, the blockade is still in place, and the situation continues to simmer without any clear resolution.

Iran’s Foreign Minister left Pakistan without meeting any US officials. Then Trump announced he cancelled the trip, citing “infighting and confusion” in Iran’s leadership. Both sides seem convinced they hold the stronger hand, making any real progress look next to impossible.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has left Pakistan without meeting any US officials. The expected high-level talks in Islamabad appear to have fallen through, adding to the ongoing uncertainty around future negotiations.

During a phone call earlier with Reuters, U.S. President Donald J. Trump said that Iran plans to make an offer that would resolve demands set by the United States as a new round of peace talks are expected to take place in Pakistan, stating that, “We're dealing with the people that are in charge now,” though refusing to elaborate who specifically they were negotiating with in the Islamic Republic.

Seems like another round of “will the U.S. and Iran have talks in Pakistan or not.” We won’t really know until it actually happens. Fits the ongoing trend of conflicting reports coming in from both sides, with no clear picture of what’s actually happening.

Following reports that Iranian air defenses were active in Tehran, Israel’s Channel 13 News has said that a military source tells them that there is “no Israeli activity in Iranian airspace.” The active air defense, which seems to be all gun-based, seems to be performative for the ongoing pro-regime marches throughout the area. More to come.

According to Iranian state media, air defense systems are active over Tehran. Israel says it is not involved. Unclear if there is an actual threat or if this is another drill or false alarm.
