There, I developed deep admiration for Judaism, for the Jewish people, and for Israel: not because they are perfect, but because of their resilience, continuity, and strength against extraordinary odds. I knew supporting Israel publicly would cost me relationships and distance me from parts of my past. It did. Yet I chose this path deliberately. On October 7, I put everything aside and went to Israel, not as an observer, but out of solidarity. I wanted to stand with people I had come to see as family.
