@harryelsocio Rafael.

In 711 CE, Muslim forces led by the Umayyad general Tariq ibn Ziyad landed at Gibraltar, marking the beginning of the Islamic conquest of the Iberian Peninsula and the rise of Al-Andalus. According to historical tradition, after crossing the Strait of Gibraltar from North Africa into Iberia, Tariq ordered his ships to be burned. This act is famously described as a way to eliminate any possibility of retreat. By destroying the fleet, he is said to have motivated his soldiers to fight with full determination, as they had no option but to advance forward or perish. Although some historians debate whether this event happened exactly as described, it remains a powerful symbol of resolve and leadership in military history. Soon after landing, Tariq’s army faced the Visigothic forces led by King Roderic. In the decisive Battle of Guadalete, the Visigothic army was defeated, leading to the rapid collapse of their rule in most of Iberia. Within a short time, major cities such as Toledo and Córdoba came under Muslim control. The conquered territory became known as Al-Andalus, governed under the Umayyad Caliphate. Over time, it developed into a major center of culture, learning, and trade, where Muslims, Christians, and Jews contributed to advancements in science, medicine, philosophy, and architecture. The invasion of 711 CE is considered a turning point in world history, as it established centuries of Muslim presence in parts of Western Europe and reshaped the political and cultural landscape of the region. #drthehistories

@Megalithic12000 Why write about a great subject if you're going to poison it with politics? Leave General Franco in peace. He died over half a century ago. Sadly, thousands of people have benefited from the dam since, without caring about the Dolmen. No subsequent Government has done anything.

A Spanish dictator drowned a 7,000 year old megalithic monument in 1963 to build a dam. The stones have been sitting underwater ever since. When drought levels drop far enough they re-emerge briefly before disappearing again. Archaeologists are racing to document them before they are gone forever. The Dolmen of Guadalperal sits beneath the Valdecañas Reservoir in Extremadura, western Spain. Around 144 standing stones arranged in a circular open space, some up to six feet tall, first excavated by German archaeologist Hugo Obermaier in the 1920s. By the time his findings were published Franco's regime had already flooded it. 🔹144 standing stones, six feet tall 🔹Submerged in 1963 by Franco's dam 🔹Petition exists to relocate the stones 🔹Entrance stone may be an ancient map 🔹Granite cracking, eroding, no surveillance 🔹Re-emerges during droughts, then gone again The entrance stone features an engraved line that some researchers believe represents the course of the Tagus River. If correct it would be one of the oldest cartographic depictions ever carved. The interpretation remains debated. The site is thought to have served as a solar temple, a collective burial ground and a trading hub at one of the few river crossings in the region. Heritage scientists published a specific paper in 2021 on the urgency of digitally documenting the site during drought windows before erosion and tourist damage make that impossible. Multiple sources confirm there is no surveillance during drought exposure. The granite is porous and already cracking. A monument that survived thousands of years faces an uncertain future if relocation is not agreed before the reservoir refills. How many more ancient sites are sitting underwater in reservoirs we built over them without a second thought?

@Europarl_EN Keep "pushing" and you will complete the destruction of all the basic principles of Law. If this is part of your plan, you are truly evil. If you really believe that it is a good idea you are beyond stupid. In any case, you are dangerous. And we are forced to pay you for it.

Sex is only sex when consent is freely given, informed, and revocable at any time. Everything else is rape. Parliament is once again pushing for an EU-wide definition of rape centred on the absence of consent.

@merseyfit @LiverpoolVista Derelict? No, of course not. I think we should look after what we have (which is a lot, and extraordinary too). New buildings should be designed with respect towards the city and a minimum of good taste. Developers should put Liverpool before money. Asking way too much, I know...

Liverpool’s skyline is set for a significant transformation, and there is an upcoming opportunity for the public to review the plans in person. On Friday, May 1st, a public consultation will be held regarding the Kings masterplan, the proposed £1.2bn development featuring a landmark 70 storey skyscraper. This is a chance for residents and local businesses to examine the designs and provide feedback on the project's impact on the waterfront. The exhibition is being hosted at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Old Hall Street. Notably, the event will take place in a suite that looks directly over the proposed development site, providing a clear perspective on how the new cluster will fit into the existing city landscape. Event Details: 📅 Date: Friday, 1 May 📍 Location: Radisson Blu Hotel, Old Hall Street 🏙️ Setting: A dedicated suite overlooking the Kings development site 📝 Purpose: To view the full masterplan and submit formal comments Whether you are interested in the architectural design or the broader economic impact on the city, this is the time to see the proposals first-hand.
