Since normalization in 2020/2021, this has moved beyond symbolism. It is now an institutional security relationship built on trust, defense coordination, intelligence proximity and operational channels. Israeli officials have long described Morocco as a central partner for regional stability and security. That alone shows how deeply Rabat is embedded in Israel’s security calculus. NE is not a regional visit. NE is a lever. Coastline, corridors, ports, security architecture. Whoever locks in irreversible facts there shifts power balances. But NE is more than geography. NE is the political zipper of Somali unity. When secession is pushed from the north, NE becomes the proof that Somalia cannot be split as long as NE stands firmly with the federal state and embodies unity in practice. Historically, this region has stood for unity and national resilience. That is why NE is now a sovereignty test zone. That is why the president’s visit to NE is not only right, but necessary. A president must be able to visit every region of his country. This is a constitutional duty and a visible assertion of territorial integrity, beyond power blocs, loyalties and short term alliances. NE is not a backdrop. NE is the frontline of Somali unity. Strengthening NE strengthens the Union. Weakening NE opens space for fragmentation. But timing is now a trust issue. The sequence looks less like protocol and more like crisis management. Pressure lines. Intense diplomacy. Then a security channel into Mogadishu. Ethiopia’s intelligence chief Ridwan Hussein meets HSM in Villa Somalia. This is not routine. This is influence designed to limit commitments before they are made. And then, right before NE, Morocco. That does not build confidence. It fuels suspicion, especially when HSM already carries a trust deficit and knows exactly how this will be read. If sovereignty is the goal, why not NE first and Rabat after. Why must this visit happen before the frontline, in a country seen as Israel’s security anchor. Anyone who wants unity must watch commitments, timing and implementation, not photos.
