Dusting off the 'ol YouTube channel and processing the last year of #Narnia movie news. It's both a lot and a little. youtu.be/C02u4idXw6M

@Prince_Rilian I don't know what CS Lewis would have cringed at, but regardless my Reepicheep plush remains one of my prized possessions. And still holding out hope for a Puddleglum action figure one of these days.

@Prince_Rilian You certainly may be right. Fingers crossed. VDT had some memorable moments from the book, but they were all poorly done. Bad adaptation.

I predict you’ll definitely have memorable moments. The VotDT movie had a bunch of those. But all evidence points to Gerwig putting her own atmosphere and themes in the film. I predict those two will be the biggest casualties.

@Prince_Rilian For me, it usually comes down to atmosphere, themes, and memorable moments.

What does “the core” mean?
Glumpuddle@Glumpuddle

@Prince_Rilian @magiclikethis That said, all indicators are that this will not be a straightforward adaptation; GG will be infusing a lot of herself. Which in itself will probably be enough to turn off a lot of fans, but I'm open to it if the core is there. :) Fingers crossed.

@Prince_Rilian @magiclikethis "Once again, I’m choosing not to refer back to that material..." The "once again" is referring to the two previous paragraphs. His main point is that, as an editor, his main job is to make sure the movie works on its own.

@Prince_Rilian @magiclikethis His point is that the editor needs to have an objective view of whether the movie is working on its own terms. If people have to read the book to understand the movie, then it has failed as a movie and adaptation.

@Prince_Rilian "I needed to keep my objectivity as much as possible in reading the script and in communicating what needed to be communicated in the film, not subconsciously rely on information that I had from the book that maybe wasn’t being conveyed in the movie." Totally fair as an editor.

@Prince_Rilian 1) I don't think GG would do it if she didn't have total creative control. 2) Netflix is also very publicly anti-theatrical, but they are doing a big IMAX release just to appease GG.

@Prince_Rilian I feel like most Scrooges are portrayed as caricatures: Grumpy grinch man doesn't like Christmas boo. But I think George C. Scott finds the real person.

@Glumpuddle @KalebAxon Can’t enjoy the characters when the writing is so bad. That’s why I enjoyed Finn in TFA and disliked him in the next two. His writing was better in the first.

@Prince_Rilian @KalebAxon But I find I don't think about that while watching the movie. Just enjoying the characters. But that's just me. :)

@Prince_Rilian @KalebAxon I see the point. But I guess I enjoyed Harrison's performance and his dynamic with Rey too much to be terribly bothered.

@KalebAxon @Glumpuddle His death wasn’t the main complaint for me. For one thing, Ford was trying to die in movie since Empire. I couldn’t stand how they reverted him back to lone smuggler who walked away from Leia and the Rebellion. It reversed the character arc for no good reason.
