Netflix slate presentation today: Film head Dan Lin teased Greta Gerwig's "rock and roll" take on #Narnia. Director said via video the film will hit IMAX theaters this Thanksgiving, and stream on Netflix at Christmas.

Irish actress Denise Gough (Star Wars: Andor) was first confirmed to have a role in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ in 2025, however she has remained conspicuously tight-lipped about the nature of that role ever since. NarniaWeb has received information which indicates that Denise Gough might be playing Aunt Letty in the film. Netflix declined to comment on our findings so this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Gough, who recently turned 46, is also well placed to play the middle sibling of both Daniel Craig (58) as Uncle Andrew, and Carey Mulligan (40) as Mabel Kirke, Digory’s mother.

I need to say again that I think Carey Mulligan as Mabel is perfect casting.

@themoonofnarnia @NarniaWeb I expect it was exclusively domesticated animals that were used on set. Walden’s LWW had real horses, dogs, and were even close to using reindeer on set. It’s fairly standard for large films!

@deeplyholloww @JonathanBock @NarniaWeb Agree to disagree that every bit of news has been disastrous. There’s still a lot we don’t know— and some reasons for optimism. I have concerns too, but I’ll wait to judge the film until we see more! Fingers crossed. All the best ☺️

As the writer and social media manager for the NarniaWeb site, you've seen every bit of news on this production. You know just as well as anyone that for fans who have been waiting for an accurate and authentic adaptation of the Magicians Nephew, not to mention Lewis's own Stepson Douglas Gresham who was lied to about getting a proper series, Gerwig's film is going to be an insulting disappointment. Every bit of news released about this film has been disastrous. It's perfectly reasonable to have a judgement about this film before its release. Spare me the sarcasm.

The combination of heavy practical effects on set and great CGI should be standard across films. Good to see!

@Prince_Rilian @Glumpuddle If what was filmed is a faithful reflection of the book, then what comes out in the final edit will most likely be as well. But if what was filmed is a poor reflection, then even the world’s biggest fan can’t make it into one. It all comes down to Gerwig’s script and direction.

@Prince_Rilian @Glumpuddle In my opinion, there’s a gigantic difference between an editor saying this and the “creative” writer/director. No one (quite literally) credits a poor or successful adaptation to the person who edits the film, who, by their position, can only work with what was shot on set.

To be fair, he wasn’t talking about Narnia when he said this. Still, I cannot relate to this philosophy.

@EStephenBurnett Then maybe I’m a bit confused as to what your reaction is to specifically? His comments were about making sure adaptations are clear and make sense to readers and first timers… Again, the movie may be swing and miss when it comes to adaptation but this is nothing quote IMO 🤷‍♂️

Editor Andrew Weisblum on adapting ‘NARNIA’ with Greta Gerwig in a recent interview with “Art of the Cut”: “Right now, I’m working on a film that…the source material is very well known…I’m choosing not to refer back to that material because we’re doing our own take on it.”
