What to Do If There Is a Bomb Threat on a Plane Passengers on Southwest Airlines Flight 2094 handled a tense situation well last night. The flight diverted from Nashville International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after a reported bomb threat. The plane landed safely and Atlanta Police Department detained one passenger. Moments like this are rare, but they are taken seriously for a reason. If you ever hear there is a bomb threat on a plane, here are a few things to keep in mind. Stay calm and listen to the flight crew who are well-trained for this and are coordinating with the pilots and law enforcement. Stay in your seat unless instructed otherwise. Unnecessary movement makes it harder for the crew to assess what is happening. If you notice suspicious behavior, quietly alert a flight attendant. Do not confront anyone yourself unless the person is actively moving to carry out an attack and there is no other option. If you physically see a suspicious device or possible bomb, notify the crew immediately and move away if instructed. We have seen at least one version of an al-Qaeda laboratory-made airline bomb. I will paste a clip below so people at least understand what one type of bomb looks like. Follow all instructions during landing. Law enforcement may board and ask passengers to remain seated while they secure the situation. If an evacuation is ordered, leave your bags and get off the aircraft quickly. Always keep your ID and phone on your person during the flight so you can move immediately if needed. From early reports, the passengers on this flight handled it exactly the right way. Bravo! Travel safe and stay aware.
