#ttrpg #RPGstuffdaily Hackmaster As you can probably guess by the visuals, this RPG started out as a parody of AD&D. It all started out as in the pages of The Knights of the Dinner Table comic book that documented an RPG group playing said game and all the exaggerated nonsense (some not too exaggerated) that happened during their sessions. The fiction game presented with ing the comic along with the characters was actually amusing though some of the Parody itself was a bit week. The company managed to secure the rights to old AD&D and set about at mostly cribbing an RPG. IMHO it was great for fans of the original and some of the changed mechanics were pretty good, but I think they missed an opportunity. They leaned into the iffy parody/lore instead of trying to create the chaos we saw on the page. The Rules Lawyering and the Min/Maxing and the other questionable practices we’ve all seen at the table. What would I have done? I would’ve had the PCs create a Player Persona that was playing the PC and given then abilities. For instance, the Rules Lawyer can make arguments that can alter the way mechanics function. The “Cheat” can alter die rolls and even come up with treasure they never had. Etc. As is, it was pretty much just a straight fantasy RPG. Nothing you really couldn’t get with breaking out the old 1st ed books.
