If you've been to a grocery store lately you've probably noticed that almost everything says "good source of protein" or even "high in protein." But if you know anything about proper nutrition, you'll know most of these are bullshit. So how are they getting away with claiming this? There is this thing called RACC. Reference Amount Customarily Consumed. This is how the FDA gets that Daily Value amount percentage. For a food to be "high in protein" it only needs to be 20% or more of the DV, per the RACC. That number for protein...is 50g. So if something has at least 10g of protein, they can legally use these marketing terms. This is different from "good source of protein" which only requires 10-19% of the RACC. So, at least 5 grams. So if you're wondering why Pop Tarts and Doritos now say "good source of protein" that's how. And yes, it's legal.

Baking some blueberry Irish soda bread because why not?
