@fishstewardship They’ve made static gear boats in parts of UK use trackers..same story all benefits for us but when asked to release the data for windfarm EIAs or other developments impacting fishermen not happened yet!Extra £100-£180 a year cost for us.We’ll have REM cameras in few years too.

Lobstermen are being forced to place GPS trackers on their commercial fishing boats for “regulations.” We’ve seen this before in the groundfish industry — data meant to “help” ended up hurting fishermen, impacting marine life, and clearing the way for offshore wind expansion.

@DefraGovUK The vessel on the video is either an American or Canadian lobster boat🙈

@DefraGovUK @IPBES @EmmaforWycombe It’s a shame the king isn’t as concerned about our shallow coastal seas as he presides over their continuing industrialisation through offshore wind (@TheCrownEstate), with no idea what the consequences will be to the oceanography and hence biology of our marine environment.

The @IPBES meeting in Manchester this week unites scientists from across the world to tackle biodiversity loss. Environment Secretary @EmmaforWycombe shared a message about the vital work to address climate change, pollution and the decline of nature. #IPBES12

@SP_RuralAffairs @UniStrathclyde Also seals have exploded in numbers all over the UK and seals are know to have suppressed the recovery of the cod in the north west Atlantic

@SP_RuralAffairs @UniStrathclyde Also the Cod Recovery Zone in the Irish Sea has made no difference to stocks in over 20years so is it not more likely that temperature rises have shifted stocks north and recovery is in reality like chasing unicorns?

@SP_RuralAffairs @UniStrathclyde Wasn’t the 70’s and 80’s the period of the “Gadoid outburst” which led to prolific catches of cod well above average.if so is it appropriate to use this as a baseline?

@fishstewardship In North Wales UK they built 160 turbines over a period of about 2 years with 18 months of piling.many fish species disappeared overnight 2014-2016).Its taken 7-8 years for pollack to return and some other species have still not returned in numbers notably gurnard

@OceanaUK @TheLobsterDr Why not acknowledge all the gear technology over the past decades in the UK that has increased selectivity of species, reduced by catch and reduced bottom contact. Small scale bottom trawling in coastal communities of the UK is essential for coastal fishing communities survival.

@OceanaUK @TheLobsterDr Cherry picking truths,if they are indeed truths is not only unfair but not scientific. There are MPAs where bottom trawling has occurred for most of the last two centuries on dynamic seabeds(sand/gravel/sand waves) and still there are good catches on those grounds.

Bottom trawling is devastating the ocean BUT THERE'S HOPE! 🌊Because when nature is left alone, it will recover. A trawling ban in Lyme Bay, Dorset, saw fish diversity shoot up by 430% in 10 yrs📈 The ocean will bounce back if we let it! Time for full bans in protected areas🪸

Drawn the short straw today…pot mending. Notice the escape gaps we fit, one of the measures we volunteer, to help ensure our lobster fishery remains sustainable. The gaps allow undersized lobsters to escape unharmed after their meal! 🦞🦞#fish24@Welsh_Fishermen

@socialseas @NathandeRoz @RWE_UK Thanks Ed, maybe when you come up to do a trip lobster tagging in the farm we can also meet with a few of the fishermen and charter skippers for other views too. We’ll be starting tagging again with Bangor Uni from May-September👍

@BD_Stew @CF_Conf Great to see that Mike and Ashley were flying the flag, but I’m afraid that the changes that you describe are not being felt on the ground, where we continue to battle with the costs of over regulation, spacial squeeze and persecution from powerful NGOs…

@Goglington @CF_Conf Mike Cohen & Ashley Mullenger gave high profile talks, but you are correct that there weren't many fishermen there. However, I do think things are changing. For example, check out this other project I'm part of where fishermen are central nicre.co.uk/projects/partn…

@NathandeRoz Also a carbon recapture project using old oil fields and probably new pipelines to transport the CO2 to the old reservoirs…you’re right Nathan the world has gone nuts, but unfortunately there’s only 10,000 of us who are out there and care…

@NathandeRoz In the next 5 years they will build 4 farms between Liverpool and the Isle of Man with more off the Isle of Man in the pipeline. Two export cables going straight through prime inshore whelk and lobster ground, also another ofgem electric cable through the inshore grounds to Eire
