One of the best biopics of the 21st century, Rocketman, used a musical fantasy approach, arguably one of the first times a biopic fully embraced that kind of execution 🤷
Just an unpopular opinion but more biopics about singers should use this approach. This and Better Man pulled it off wonderfully too.

Marvel’s X-Men reboot is taking inspiration from one of the most iconic comic runs ever.
Director Jake Schreier revealed he’s diving deep into the legendary Chris Claremont era, the run that defined the emotional, political, and character-driven storytelling fans still associate with the mutants today.
This means that instead of a simple reset, Marvel may be aiming for something messier, more character-focused, and rooted in the kind of storytelling that made the X-Men stand out in the first place.

@Stunt_ManMik3 @Digger4FX @moviesinfocus To claim that practical effects, even ones that look fake, are inherently better than CGI just because they’re tangible is absurd.
English

@GojiFan_78 @Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Exactly
like of course Avatar is CGI. i can instantly tell because it's so fantastical. But it IS very much photorealistic in id say 90% of scenes (int he last 2)
Do I watch a New Hope and disparage it because I can tell the Xwings blowing up are little models? Nope!
English

@Stunt_ManMik3 @Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Exactly. I can also easily shit on Rogue One because the X-Wings are CG. Or that the Muppets are bad because I can they are fleece/foam puppets. With any special effect, you’re not gonna be able to make it look 100% realistic. They’re called special effects for a reason.
English

@Stunt_ManMik3 @Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Their perspective is a perfect example of the snobbery people can have around special effects. You can prefer practical effects over CGI, but you should do so without disrespecting the latter.
The stigma against CGI reminds me of the one that people have against cartoons.
English

@Digger4FX @moviesinfocus That’s just a snobbish perspective. Just because a movie is mostly made using CGI doesn’t make it inferior to films made practically. CGI/animation is a genuine art form with passion behind it. And it can look just as convincing as practical effects.
English

@GojiFan_78 @moviesinfocus My definition of "convincing" is based on reality. You seem to ignore reality to serve your love for computer-looking artwork. You also encouraged me to ignore reality.

Am I the only one who actually likes the Hollow Earth conceptually?
My biggest issue with the Hollow Earth currently is the lack of herbivores and other glaring details with the ecology that are in desperate need of fleshing out. Otherwise I fw it.
GODZILLA STAN ACCOUNT@BigDummy05
from what i'm hearing it seems like the hollow earth really won't be a focus of the movie much at all (thank god) so it's like i mean i'm sure we'll see SOME of it therefore i'm not gonna say the chances are zero but ultimately

the perfect ending for S2 (atleast to me), would feature Kong responding to Ghidorah's alpha call
it was a big missed opportunity for them not showing how Kong would've reacted to it in KotM, or GvK
maybe they're saving it for Monarch S2 instead?
neoDarth@neodarth_
hmmm..
English

@Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Sure, the Navi could have been created using prosthetic-wearing actors or puppetry scaled up digitally. But I don’t think they would have looked as convincing as they do as mocapped characters.
English

@GojiFan_78 @moviesinfocus Show me a convincing CGI character. I'd rather have reality which is convincing. Thinking that Avatar could not be done practically is limited thinking. One could also combine both tools, reality and computer if necessary.
English

@Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Reality isn’t always convincing. Practical effects can look fake. Caesar the Ape and Davy Jones are convincing. CG characters have their place in films, and to think that they don’t is just being narrow minded and biased.
I don’t see an issue making Pandora all CG.
English

@Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Practical effects, as they great as they can be, aren’t some hill to die on. I’d rather have a convincing CG character than a stilted practical one.
English

@GojiFan_78 @moviesinfocus I call it like I see it, thanks. Yes, many super talented people try like hell to make it photo real and yes, they deserve credit. But it's not photography. Practical effects, a term I popularized BTW, are in front of the camera and that's what matters to me.
English

@Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Just because practical effects are tangible doesn’t make them superior to CGI. Practical effects are put on this pedestal while CGI is unfairly shit on. They’re both tools that should be handled with care. Plus, how would Cameron create Pandora and its inhabitants practically?
English

@Digger4FX @moviesinfocus Plus, how would Cameron have created Pandora and it’s inhabitants with practical effects?

#Marvel’s X-Men reboot is already being built as something bigger.
Director Jake Schreier confirmed the studio is thinking beyond a single film, exploring future storylines and unexplored comic arcs while developing the first installment. And with writers from Beef and The Bear on board, it’s clear Marvel is aiming for something more ambitious than a simple reset.

@DorothyHumdrum @daveleedwnundr Unrelated, but I feel that animation, whether it be photorealistic 3D or stylized 2D animation, is underappreciated. VFX artists are fellow animators, and are treated badly in the film industry.
English

@daveleedwnundr More effort, more humanity, than
typing prompts into image stealers will ever achieve.
Generators cant think, & prompts are too vague, and open for it to be the creation of a typer.
Ai will never achieve that level of tactility or on the fly thinking.
English

Hand-drawn animation in 1937 was not a “tool” — it was the product of hundreds of artists using their physical being, and long-honed skills to create tangible artwork. The “tool” was the pencil and the ink, not the artwork.
Mike Miller@pt5films
"But it's not REAL filmmaking." Neither was animation in 1937. Neither was CGI in 1993. Every new tool gets dismissed by people who built their identity around the old one.
