A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

The Greens will raise the minimum wage to £15 for all workers 💪

@GoldRobin_11 @mrstomlinstan @PeterMcCormack Dipshit. He has many other costs besides staff. When you become a CPA, someone might listen to you. Adam Smith wrote in his 1776 book, Wealth of Nations, about Invisible Hand. Basis of Capitalism. Only losers push for socialism, because they don’t understand dynamics of economics

@GoldRobin_11 @mrstomlinstan @PeterMcCormack So what. People go into business to make money. The rich have the capital to make investments which turn into jobs for millions. Without capital and growth and investments there are no jobs.

@GoldRobin_11 @mrstomlinstan @PeterMcCormack You don’t have a clue on what that business owner was doing right or wrong. If he said he was being squeezed from higher costs and minimum wages were a problem then believe him. He has better information than you do.

@GoldRobin_11 @UnderSneege I'm not very clever. Which is why I had to ask you whether I understood what I was reading correctly. Because it sounded retarded even to me....and I'm clearly fucking stupid.

These people are some of the absolute worst and most anti-social kind of people in society. “You can’t deal with the challenges of bad legislation that’s going to have a huge negative impact on your business? Maybe you shouldn’t run a business then.” “You can’t magic up the money to pay VAT on schools fees that didn’t exist last year? Maybe you shouldn’t send your kids to that school in the first place.” “You don’t like anti-social behaviour on the streets? Maybe you shouldn’t go out in public?” There is no element of avoidable decline they won’t cheerlead on from the sidelines. And nothing makes them more animated and angry than someone who is trying to stand up against the decline. They need some kind of scarlet letter branded on them and to be completely outcast from polite society as they are POISON.

@PeterMcCormack So many people like you want to run a business, but can’t deal with any challenges you face. You own a coffee shop and staff pay has increased? Reward schemes for customer retention Sell your own coffee beans with branding Coffee making classes Don’t be lazy

@GoldRobin_11 @UnderSneege You have 10 followers none of whom have liked your post, telling someone with over 5000 followers that no-one cares what they say. Meanwhile you don't run a coffee shop, but are explaining to a multi-millionaire who does, about how to run a coffee shop. Am I understanding this?

@GoldRobin_11 @PeterMcCormack We allow the 22 year old and those who employ him/her to agree to whatever wage they both think is fair. No third party needed. Just good old fair trade

It doesn't matter what the law says the minimum wage is; in practice, it's zero. The government can compel businesses to pay as employee £12.71 an hour - but it CAN'T compel them to employ that person in the first place. And, if that person generates less in additional revenue than they cost to employ, they will lose their job - thereby earning £0 per hour.

@GoldRobin_11 @PeterMcCormack My bad, I didn't realize all minimum wage jobs fell specifically into bartending and manufacturing. Clearly you're the genius here. It's not like good bartenders make decent bank or anything either...

@GoldRobin_11 @PeterMcCormack Not everyone on minimum wage has to pay for rent and basic goods. A lot of these jobs are meant to be taken by 16 year old kids who just want the chance to earn a little gas and date money. If you're an adult and haven't leveled up your skill above the minimum, that's on you.

@GoldRobin_11 @PeterMcCormack These are the type of questions that you will find the answer to by running your own business. Do that first then stop being a mong.

Weird that even the police, in their tweet, though not in the full statement itself, are just airbrushing the fact that he’s being charged with three attempted murders, not two, the third person being a Muslim man he stabbed earlier in the day
Metropolitan Police@metpoliceuk

A man will appear in court today charged following a Counter Terrorism Policing investigation into two men stabbed in #GoldersGreen: news.met.police.uk/news/man-charg…

@GoldRobin_11 @PeterMcCormack £120 / day + holidays/sick days and social insurance real cost £150 / day. So 2 staff £300 /day. Plus Rent, Equipment, highest utility costs in Europe, insurance . ... £500/day. Coffee margin £2.50. So need to sell 200 cups of coffee every day just to cover costs. Not for me.
