this is the dumbest, most disproven take in modern politics. police do prevent crime. it’s called deterrence. every serious study on the subject (including ones from left-leaning academics) shows that more cops, faster response times, and proactive policing reduce crime. when cities defunded or demoralized police in 2020-2022, homicides, carjackings, and violent crime spiked dramatically in those exact cities. when they reversed course and put cops back on the street, crime dropped again. social programs and “creating opportunity” are nice in theory, but they have never been shown to be the primary driver of crime reduction. cities with massive welfare spending and “social programs” still have some of the highest crime rates in the country when they also have weak policing and soft-on-crime prosecutors. your “police don’t prevent crime” line is pure ideology, not data. it’s the same cope that led to dead bodies piling up in blue cities while you blamed “root causes” instead of the criminals and the policies that let them roam free.

Police don’t prevent crime. They show up after it happens. Crime prevention starts with funding social programs and creating opportunity.
