We're thrilled to welcome the Golden State Valkyries to San Jose! The Bay Area is proud of them for making HERstory as the first WNBA team to make the playoffs in their inaugural season. Taking VTA to the SAP Center is a slam dunk. See how: bit.ly/41TGf38

If we want people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, we need to offer opportunities for people to pull themselves up Opportunities are what people deserve We can offer more opportunities, but it takes leadership making an active decision to do so

The median household income being within 5x of the average home sale price has not happened in Santa Clara County in 28-29 years Lots of people point to 08, obviously Here in Silicon Valley, we haven’t even recovered from Apple’s emergence or the dot com bubble with housing
M. Nolan Gray 🥑@mnolangray

Block the use of MID or SALT in cities in which either (a) the local median home price is more than five times the metropolitan median household income or (b) average permitting is less than 5 units per 1,000 residents over the past 5 years. This ends NIMBYism overnight.

@TordillosD3 I’ve been working on a piece for a few weeks on why a successful city needs a successful downtown As a San Jose native, this is one more “yes, and” policy area Can we connect so I can get a quote?

We need to bring people downtown to fuel the economic heart of our city, but we can’t rely on pre-pandemic norms to do it. That’s why I’m focused on getting more housing built. By building more housing downtown, we support local businesses by providing more regular customers.

An upscale San Jose restaurant has closed less than two years after it opened, as the city grapples with attracting people to the downtown core. sanjosespotlight.com/high-end-downt…

@iGardon @MattMahanSJ When they say expensive, they mean in order to pay their employees Thats because our city doesn’t have enough housing, requiring higher and higher wages We need better land use & more, better, affordable choices on how we get around town so more businesses want to and stay open

Hi, Mayor — What BBB did today has a name: seeking attention. By saying “screw you” to 40 million Californians, their CEO (really just a store manager) scored hundreds of millions of dollars in FREE publicity, a Fox News hit, and the chance to inform millions of Americans they still exist after we all thought they closed after their bankruptcy (all for FREE!). Unfortunately, it seems you fell for it, too. 1.2 MILLION new businesses started in California in the last 5 years. Florida? 665k. Texas? 529k. We know bashing CA is fun. But quick reminder: your city ranks 99th out of 100 for business climate. Perhaps focus on that before pointing the finger elsewhere?

This is serious — we are shooting ourselves in the foot and we need to acknowledge that. San Jose is open for business, we’re doing everything we can to make it easier for our employers to succeed. I hope the rest of the state follows suit. Looking forward to seeing how our gubernatorial candidates respond to issues like this.
Marcus Lemonis@marcuslemonis

Official statement regarding @BedBathBeyond We will not open retail stores in California. This isn’t about politics — it’s about reality. California’s system makes it nearly impossible for businesses to succeed, and I won’t put our company, our employees, or our customers in that position. See attachment.

@losgatan Thanks for the info Did they mention if the education would be more geared towards parents, kids, or all of the above? Or not go that much into detail?

@OBE408 The gist of it was that they don’t want to chase speeding e-bikers, for fear of creating an even more unsafe situation, but they will focus on education.

The City of LA, embarrassingly, just voted to oppose #SB79 (legalizing housing near transit). Watch this incredible rebuttal from @cd4losangeles, where she says that the city isn't acting in good faith to address the housing crisis, & that state intervention has been necessary.

@SJSpotlight We do need to be thoughtful in our shift from car dependence to cars being an option And we’ll never get there without planning to, and investing in our future We can plan for the future together, we just have to be willing to listen

We will never be able to end, or even drastically reduce homelessness until we can build enough homes to prevent new homeless people and families This is a “yes, and” moment and that does mean bridging the divide and making the best compromise that supports our cities
San José Spotlight@SJSpotlight

The math says it all. Santa Clara County can’t build temporary or permanent housing fast enough to address its growing homeless population. sanjosespotlight.com/santa-clara-co…
