My Full statement on the Office of Planning’s draft Future Land Use Map. Rent in DC is still too expensive. Owning a home is still out of reach for too many of our residents. Making it easier to build more housing is essential to solving those problems. Look at how much industrial land is concentrated in Ward 5. If you claim to care about the environment, stand with Ward 5 neighbors in demanding stricter controls, real mitigation, and a more equitable distribution of industrial land in DC. This is a racial equity issue.

Virginia Ali co-opened Ben's Chili Bowl at 24 years old. She drove her kids to school in the morning, worked the counter starting at 11, picked them up in the afternoon & then went back to Ben's. At 92, we are blessed that she is still here with us & greeting guests most days.

Interesting: Former D.C. Council candidate and current ANC commissioner @GoreforDC has launched a new group to help push forward the a planned redevelopment of the Chevy Chase library and rec center to include housing on top. (She has advocated for housing as a commissioner.)

@PaulHandley2 @maustermuhle Our group is dedicated to our community. Housing is a big part but not the only part. If you check out our site you will see most of not all of us, have been doing equity work all across DC for years. I can assure you we are not funded by anyone!

I don’t think this is fair. CM McDuffie championed Baby Bonds & I can attest as someone who was subject to his oversight, that he always centered equity, justice & delivering for Ward 7 & 8. However, my favorite McDuffie moment was back in 2021 when I work for MPD.
