Tom Stewart’s masterclass against Brisbane on Thursday night had Geelong fans wondering if the 2025 Grand Final would have been different if he had played. Scott Gullan has the deep dive.

@JoshJenkins24 Zorko is their best user from the back half. It was only a round 10 game and lions were missing plenty.
Both teams very skilled and clearly it comes down to coaching and the day itself, it was a 70 point swing between their 2 finals series matches last year.
English

@PerriW2345 @lightsupleclerc Holy shit. Was Dimma the one that allegedly nearly clocked Damo at a brownlow?
English

Your reminder that Geelong, which has played in 14 of the last 19 preliminary finals, is into third position on the ladder. It has only Tyson Stengle out of its best side. And has 10 of its last 13 games in Victoria. Six of them at GMHBA Stadium, where it has won the last eight games. And has Carlton, Essendon, Richmond in that run.
English

@flagswans2026 Imagine thinking one game in round 9 means anything? Cats flogged them by 38 then lost a few weeks later by 47 when it mattered?
English

Brisbane are getting embarrassed on their home deck by a Geelong side off a 5 day break, anyone who thought they were premiership favourites is a fucking idiot

@BradKlibansky if it results in a ball up, you have gained territory and can set up again at the clearance
English

@BradKlibansky regardless of DE% - i think you can make the argument, with the current style of football, even gaining ground is a win. he pushes the ball forward - unless its a kick to a direct opponent, its not an awful outcome to kick it down 40 metres, you gain territory and pressure
English

Bailey Smith’s DE efficiency in 2026 is 65.7%. Some other midfielders with similar numbers this season:
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera 67.8%
Patrick Cripps 67.4%
Ed Richards 67%
Will Ashcroft 66.8%
Nick Daicos 65.3%
Caleb Serong 64.4%
Kysaiah Pickett 59.6%

@BradKlibansky What's his disposal efficiency? That'd be the only knock on him.

This is my way of saying sorry for being AWOL for the last month!
I’ll be returning all inquiries over the next few days. ❤️

It’s getting cosy season ⛄️
English

Jack Scrimshaw injured his knee at training on Tuesday and won’t be available against Melbourne. Jack Gunston ruled out. Expected to only miss one game. No debutants for Hawthorn at this stage @AFLcomau
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean Tv viewership is an entirely different thing, media consumption has been diluted because of all the different services/streams and social media. Same can be said for wrestling lol - the NBA gets massive social media engagement
English

@Gospizzle @neolegends_com @olympicbean It is easier today objectively. The game was much harder before. And yes people all the time criticize today’s game and players as easier than last generations. People literally do that everyday currently. That’s also why viewership has been a struggling issue last few seasons.
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean It's subjective, there is no objective measure. The main point of this discussion going back to the conversation around 'easier' - no one is going to go look back in time at any sport and say 'look it was easier back then' or the 'game was less developed' and say it meant less.
English

@Gospizzle @neolegends_com @olympicbean This is why today’s defense is heavily criticized because they don’t address those options and simply allow the teams to score easier than they did just 15yrs ago.
You’re trying to cherry pick but you’re proving my point. The game has gotten objectively easier over time.
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean It is subjective, I can cherry pick stats too. If there are more scoring options, that also means there are more things you to consider/defend against no?
More possessions in a game, means more plays to create offense and also defend no?
Any1 can pick stats for their argument
English

@Gospizzle @neolegends_com @olympicbean It’s 100% easier. It’s not subjective.
Rules used to dictate you couldn’t dribble anywhere but the direct top of the ball.
Rules used to dictate a hard line with 2 steps and a pivot foot and no gather step leeway.
The 3p line addition gives more passive scoring options.
Etc
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean Also it is not just the rules and gameplay that dictates the difficulty. The level of competition also impacts how easy or hard it is. A 15th man on a roster spot today would probably crush a 15th man back in 1970s etc - athletes skill levels also change
English

@Gospizzle @neolegends_com @olympicbean If it became harder then I would also discredit his era too.
But it’s actually become much easier as I’ve said now 3 times. Rule changes have made the game much easier with each generation.
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean How would you feel if people in 30 years time wanted to discredit kobes era of basketball because the game has changed and past eras might be viewed as 'easier'
English

@Gospizzle @neolegends_com @olympicbean Yes it would make the newer accomplishments seen as lesser as it should because it would be easier from that point forward.
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean My answer would be no, because you can only compete in the given rules/situation/scenario at the time and it would be unfair to compare from era to era etc.
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean Ok I'll come back to this argument specifically.
So with this logic, if we flip it and a sport becomes harder because of rule changes - do we look back and say past rings don't mean as much now, the sport was easier back then. The season was shorter, there were less teams!
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean If that's how you feel what can I say, I think your job is more rewarding in front of a live audience - being a performer and all. However, I'm an observer to it all and don't go through the grind that you do. Anyway, thanks for the discussion
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean So you as a performer would rather perform to no audience? Interesting
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean I think you missed the point, but let's go by your argument of it being 'easier'. Also, would you rather wrestle to no audience,Would you enjoy that over a live crowd?
1) if it was easier, that means it was easier for all teams and players involved? so it was fair game for all
English

@MegaTJP @neolegends_com @olympicbean Anyway I agree that you can't view it as a championship in the traditional sense, but I don't think you can view it as much less. The bubble season exists in its own spectrum, that's all. Players and staff gave up a lot and their life for a period to go live and play in a bubble
