Alaska is fortunate to have a great working relationship with @EPA under President Trump and Administrator @LeeMZeldin. It’s a completely different dynamic than the Biden and Obama administrations.

Yesterday I joined U.S. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin for tour of Fairbanks where he saw firsthand the unique challenges the area faces during the winter months. We visited the Army Corp of Engineers Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility, the UAF coal fired power plant and made time to meet with a group of long-haul truckers.

It’s a quick nine days to land gas in Tokyo from Alaska through uncontested waters in the North Pacific, unlike other parts of the world. Once the Alaska natural gas pipeline project is complete, our Asian allies will have reliable deliveries of gas for 60+ years from its ally America via the great state of Alaska.

The coordinated military operation carried out today by the United States and Israel is a necessary response to decades of malign behavior by the Iranian regime and its leadership. President Trump announced that Iran’s Supreme Leader and members of the regime's leadership were killed. For decades, that regime sponsored terrorism, supported proxy forces dedicated to the destabilization of the Middle East, and attempted to develop nuclear weapons. I commend the bravery and professionalism of our armed forces and our Israeli partners for executing an operation focused on eliminating threats to peace and protecting innocent lives. We must recognize this moment as one where decisive action was required to defend American citizens, our allies, and the international order. This is also an opportunity for the Middle East, given all that’s happened over the past year and a half, to turn a new page, and also provide for its people, especially the younger generation, a new future built upon cooperation and integration. Let’s hope this leads to a more positive future for everyone.

As someone who has worked in a logging camp in Southeast Alaska, I know how important having a working forest is to communities in Southeast. This is great news for the people of Alaska and will be a lifeline to the blue-collar Alaskan workers in Southeast Alaska who President Biden and previous administrations sought to keep out of work by managing the Tongass as if it were a National Park.

Alaskans are honoring civil rights pioneer Elizabeth Peratrovich and America's 47 presidents today. Elizabeth Peratrovich was an Alaska Native woman of the Tlingit nation who was instrumental in the campaign against ending the discrimination that plagued the Alaska territory, and in doing so, she left a permanent mark on Alaska’s history. Presidents' Day was created to honor America's first President George Washington but over time has become a day to honor all U.S. presidents.
