The English title is based on the name given by the Greek translators of this book in the second century B.C. The name could be translated "source" or "generation". The original Hebrew title is simply the first word of the book, Bereshith, "In the Beginning".

The thing I find astounding on here anytime I actually have the patience to interact… is the amount of intellectual dishonesty and disingenuousness people have when discussing quite literally the most important things in the world. Speaking about things that potentially affect the salvation of others and we use disingenuous “debate” tactics to try and “win”. It’s disgusting. And it happens across all denom.

Show me in the Bible, where it says that the Holy Eucharist (communion bread and wine) is only symbolic, and not literally the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

He used a silly example but he’s actually correct. People are chasing that dopamine hit more than a family. Rising costs are a problem for sure but it is entirely possible to still have a family and live. But it reverts back to the dopamine hits of people trying to feel validated with nicer things and opinions from others. Most people live above their means when they don’t have to. Been guilty of it in the past myself. We all want a nicer house/apartment, nicer car etc. I personally know a decent amount of families where the father makes around 60k a year, mother doesn’t work and they have 3-6 kids. It’s possible. They just make it work and live according to their means.

@UPottcast @UcheMaryOkoli Your opinion becomes invalid when you quote false statistics. There are even prominent Catholic apologists who beg Catholics to stop claiming the 40k stat bc it’s disingenuous. But it sure does allow you to try and “dunk on prots” so go off

@garrettham_esq You don’t understand Protestantism if you believe this. The only way you get this assumption is if you take a RCC proposed time of events and then account for the reformation. Protestants do not believe that the RCC was founded in roughly 33AD by Peter as you do.

Protestantism's deepest assumption is that Christianity went wrong almost immediately and stayed wrong for 1,500 years. That's not a small claim. It's the entire premise of the movement.

You're not really Christian unless you're Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox, @patrickbetdavid So next time before you contrast Catholics & Christians, recall that as a Protestant, you're not even part of a Christian Church (w/ apostolic succession/priests/bishops/sacraments)

Sleep train starting at 6 months. You put your child down around 7-8pm or so. And you let him cry. He’s going to cry. You do not go in that room to soothe him unless he’s awake and crying for over 30 minutes. Baby cam to watch makes this easy. He needs to learn to self soothe at night. If he wakes up in the middle of the night, you’re ready, but you don’t go in unless it’s been over 30 minutes. My daughter was sleep trained starting at 6 months. After about a week, she has slept through the night and every night. Lifesaver for mother and I.

@fiercepatricks Can’t speak on everyone else’s motivations as if I know for a fact. But I would assume for the vast majority it would be because of the way that sin is treated by secularists. You don’t see “movements” encouraging people to live their truths as adulterers, as theives, etc.

@GraceOvrDespair @howertonjosh @jason_howerton It’s tempting to turn into a “hot take” pastor every time a cultural issue (albeit a sinful one) gets alot of attention on the socials. My desire as a pastor is that Christians will seek the whole council of God’s Word in daily prayer and study, to stop with knee jerk reactions.

Many well-meaning (but I believe, naive) pastors have an “ick” about engaging in culture war issues. REMINDER: Pastors are literally the only people in America who can avoid these issues, bc they get to live in a tithe-dollar-created bubble. Every one of your people faces these issues everyday at work, with their families, in their schools… and many of them risk their jobs over them. They need clear teaching and consistent encouragement that no, they aren’t crazy.

Should be approached with caution. If I had to bet the house one way or the other, I’d bet hoax. But I’m not overtly confident either way. Should just be approached with caution due to some only gaining faith through such things. If you need “proof” through miraculous artifacts/etc then it opens your faith up to termination if any of those “artifacts” end up being proven hoax.

We all agree. What we seem to disagree on how that “love” manifests. Those on Pastor Josh’s or Mr. Iveys side of this tend to believe ignoring/encouraging someone to continue to live in sin is about as far from loving you can be. We completely understand your side of the argument but simply disagree with it. If you agree it’s a sin to participate in lgbt relations, then you should LOVINGLY call it out. It’s quite interesting that it seems to be one of the very few sins that many Christians don’t bother with. If I were a pathological liar, those who loved me would call me out. Same if I were an adulterer, their, etc.
