@henrywinter It's hard to see how the PL's reputation can be damaged when it's scraping the sea bottom anyway.

At some point, senior Premier League execs have to offer a proper explanation in public for their leniency towards Chelsea. They owe an explanation to fans of clubs punished more harshly. They owe an explanation to those clubs who did abide by the rules. They have to offer some explanation as to why PSR breaches are deemed far more serious than acts of "deception and concealment". Yes, these are the offences of a previous regime at Chelsea. But inconsistencies run through the PL's defence and their reputation is damaged. They can’t hide from a controversy of this magnitude.

@LissaKEvans Once in Ireland we drove to my wife's family's farm; she hadn't seen them since 1970. At the end of the drive, m-i-l said "They haven't painted the house since..." and turned round. An Irish friend said "If they're in the house, why paint the outside when they can't see it?"

The thing about Irishness: it's insidious. There was I, living in England, confident in my Welshness - didn't look where I was going, and suddenly I was producing Father Ted and marrying an Irishman. On #StPatricksDay. Be careful out there.

I realise that driving nearly 9 miles to the far end of the benefice this morning may have given a misleading impression, but the events company that emailed me because it thinks I might enjoy flying to Rio de Janeiro for a rock concert this weekend is barking up the wrong tree.

We've a clergy recruitment crisis going on in the South Midlands, and so I'm studying shop windows. A special call out to one diocese who advertised that they've five times more sheep in their patch than worshippers. An interesting contrast, but not the flex they think it is. 1/2

@NorthantsCodger No, he enjoys cooking and he’s very good at it. But not necessarily the sort of food a 5-y-o would pick. I thought it was sweet of her to show me something to eat without hurting Daddy’s feelings

@GrahamBrack What a lovely lady she is. Were you being diplomatic by saying he's a great cook? Is your son-in-law on Twitter!?

To our daughter’s for a Mother’s Day meal. The 5-y-o beckoned me secretly into the kitchen, opened a cupboard and whispered “Grandad, this is where we keep the cereal in case you don’t like Daddy’s cooking.” Daddy’s cooking was excellent.

@NorthantsCodger One of the rejoining ones. In fairness I think whoever wrote it was trying to lighten the mood and compensate for those who want video screens and walls knocked through.

When I asked parishioners what changes they would like to see to the church building over the next 5 years I admit that the introduction of a drinks cabinet to each pew was not high on my list.

Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey@wabbey·
The Abbey's cloisters are at their most peaceful in the early morning. This Lent, take a moment to reflect as you follow in the footsteps of the medieval monks of Westminster, exploring the cloisters accompanied by the trickling sounds of the fountain and the bells calling people to morning prayer. Conclude your walk in College Garden and listen to the beautiful sound of birdsong as the Abbey awakes to start a new day.

NHS hospital: I noticed the clock on the wall showed the wrong time. A nurse told me they knew, but they wouldn’t report it because replacing the battery through the NHS would cost £70. A £2 battery... £70. How? Why? That's when I began to dig further. 🧵

So this is a stottie. Now see that lovely soft airy bread - now imagine that smothered in butter and then what happens to that butter when you add the hot bacon and fried egg. It is deeeelish that is what! Southerners can only imagine! #notforsoutherners #notabap

I'm not advocating for everyone to start calling me Fr Heaton, but I do think it's interesting that culturally if you go to hospital the doctors/surgeons are Dr/Mr Surname, but not in the ‘hospital for sinners’. What does it say about the administration of the ‘cure of souls’?
Daniel Heaton@2D0XPS

@GordonFbpe @chinmj I know of only a tiny no who go by Mr/Fr/Dr/Canon Surname (the general trend for informality and also the deprofessionalisation of the clergy). Senior clergy will say, “Please don't call me Mr/Mme Archdeacon,” but they're the same gen who say, “Oh no, Mr Smith is my father.”

In a strange development the news feed on my computer has developed an odd delay as a result of which the photographs change before the accompanying text. This has led to my misapprehension that Paul Scholes favoured Pam Bondi as next manager of Man U and that Pete Hegseth was
