Zambia has officially lifted restrictions on the export of maize grain and maize products, including mealie meal. This policy shift is designed to support farmers and vastly improve market access. All traders, millers, processors and individuals are now free to export maize and related products to any market of their choice. While ensuring domestic supply is always a priority, opening up our borders for structured agricultural trade is a massive win for the local economy. Here is why this is a game-changer for Zambia: 1. Empowering Small-Scale Farmers: Rural livelihoods depend heavily on maize. By allowing producers to access cross-border markets, they can command more competitive prices for their yields. Better margins mean higher household incomes and reduced rural poverty. 2. Stimulating Agro-Processing & Job Creation: This policy doesn't just apply to raw grain, it includes processed goods like mealie meal. This creates a massive incentive for local value addition, driving growth and creating jobs within our milling, packaging, and logistics sectors. 3. Boosting Foreign Exchange Reserves: Selling to international markets brings much-needed foreign currency into the country, which helps stabilise the Kwacha and strengthens our macroeconomic position. 4. Incentivising Future Production: Free markets encourage growth. When farmers know they have a reliable, uncapped market for their produce, they are incentivised to plant more and invest in better farming technology, driving long-term regional food security. This is a significant step forward in positioning Zambia as a true agricultural hub and regional breadbasket. This will also shift the burden of maize purchases from FRA (ultimately the Treasury) to a more robust and liquid market while FRA secures ours strategic reserves. By trusting our producers to compete on a larger stage, we are planting the seeds for sustainable, private-sector-led economic growth.

Ethiopia has won two major international arbitration cases, successfully defeating claims worth more than $850 million. The disputes involved a Turkish construction firm and a Netherlands-based leasing company. Tribunals ruled in favor of Ethiopia’s authority to enforce environmental and regulatory protections. The government says the victories strengthen its global legal standing and reinforce confidence in its investment governance.

Rhema just went fully offline. 🔥 We added local Whisper speech-to-text so you no longer need an internet connection or API key to detect Bible verses in real time. Works on both Windows and Mac. But that's not all. Here's what else shipped: 🎙️ Voice navigation for verses and chapters in reading mode 🌗 Light and dark mode toggle 📚 Add to queue straight from the book search panel 📡 Remote control via OSC and HTTP API 🎓 Interactive onboarding tutorial for new users 🔍 Improved semantic search parsing 🛠️ Unicode crash fix for Windows Bible downloads Rhema is becoming the sermon companion we always wanted to build. More coming soon. #Rhema #BibleTech #OpenSource

Hi guys, I built an open-source alternative to @pewbeam_ai in one week. github.com/openbezal/rhema Started coding during a Sunday church service. By the following Sunday, we were using it live during our church service. Wild. Here's what Rhema does: it listens to your pastor's sermon in real-time, detects Bible verse references as they're mentioned, and displays them on screen instantly. No manual clicking, no dedicated slide operator needed. The tech stack: - Tauri 2.0 with a Rust backend handling all the heavy lifting: audio capture, transcription pipeline, verse detection logic, and system tray integration - Local AI embeddings using Qwen3-0.6B so everything runs on-device with zero cloud dependency. Your sermons never leave your machine - Real-time audio transcription paired with semantic search against a full Bible verse database The Rust backend was a deliberate choice. We needed low latency audio processing and efficient memory usage for running an embedding model locally, and Rust delivers on both. Is it perfect? Probably not. But the core functionality works and we're already using it in a real church environment This is where you come in. Rhema is fully open source and we need contributors to help take it to the next level. Whether it's improving the verse detection accuracy, adding multi-language support, building a better overlay UI, adding support for more Bible translations, or optimizing the transcription pipeline, there's real work to be done and real impact to be made. If you're a Rust developer, a frontend engineer, an ML enthusiast, or just someone who loves building tools for the church, come build with us. Star the repo. Fork it. Open a PR. Let's make this the go-to open-source solution for live Bible verse display in churches worldwide. github.com/openbezal/rhema

Pure car carrier MV Global Fuji, made her maiden call at the Port of Mombasa today to discharge 579 motor vehicle units. The vessel which is the second LNG-powered ship to be handled at the Port of Mombasa arrived and docked at Berth no. 1 at 1100 hrs. KPA's Manager Marine Operations Capt. Moses Muthama presented Certificate of First Call and a commemorative plaque to the ship's Master, Oleksandr Gusyev, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer Capt. William Ruto. Capt. Muthama expressed the Authority's commitment in implementing its Green Port Policy through support for cleaner vessel technologies, emission reduction measures in marine operations and investment in sustainable infrastructure. He added that the arrival of LNG-powered vessels reflects the growing confidence in the Port of Mombasa as a partner in the global transition to environmentally responsible shipping. On his part Capt. Gusyev noted LNG propulsion is both cheaper and cleaner saying refueling infrastructure remains a great challenge in some regions. MV Global Fuji, which has an overall length of 200 meters, runs primarily on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), using about 5 percent diesel for start-up, in line with global efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions from maritime transport. LNG propulsion significantly reduces sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and carbon emissions compared to conventional marine fuels, positioning it as a key transitional option as the industry moves toward net-zero. Globally, shipping is accelerating it's shift toward cleaner fuels and lower emissions. Pure car carriers are among vessel segments leading the transition to cleaner fuels, as operators respond to tightening emissions targets set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Having already responded to the second part of the post, here is a quick legal reminder for the author: The Strait of Hormuz does not constitute 'international waters.' Rather, it is composed of the territorial seas of Iran and Oman. There is even no 'corridor' of high seas or an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) running through its center, hence, every ship passes through the terrotirial waters of Iran or Oman. Consequently, under customary international law, the two coastal states have rights over these waters that must be respected. Having a legal advisor around is not a bad idea!
