@Im_RobM He has ignored loads of blatant looking penalties because he is so used to VAR stepping in and making the decision for him.

There is no better example of VAR causing a decline in Premier League officiating than this Southampton v Boro match. Premier League referee Andy Madley in charge and without a VAR safety net he has been absolutely rotten.

On this day in history, 32 years ago… John Smith, the Labour Party leader, was 55 years old when he died from a heart attack on May 12, 1994. He once said: “People in Britain today are angry: not just disappointed, not just disillusioned, but angry. They are angry at the state of Britain; angry at the total absence of leadership; angry at the absence of vision; angry at the hypocrisy and double standards; and they are angry at the incessant incompetence of a Government they no longer respect and increasingly despise.” And tragically, his words of wisdom (aimed against the Tory government) could equally apply to Keir Starmer’s government of today.

@AdamP1242 @colin_calcio Would be funny in spurs went down but as we're not going down it doesn't matter. 50k people don't want to turn up and watch us lose. Madness.

@GrahamScott2026 @colin_calcio Unfortunately PSR, FFP and SCR is not going to disappear because you don’t care about it I want Newcastle United to be successful long term and they will have a better chance doing that with Tottenham down

@AdamP1242 @colin_calcio I know you're just doing it for clicks but FFS why would you ever want your own team to lose? I couldn't give a shit about PSR,FFP, SCR or any other such shit. I pay my money to go and watch a good game and hopefully a Newcastle win.

@CraigHope_DM I don't know what all the fuss is about. I'd be amazed if every other club in the league doesn't do exactly the same.

@david_hollas What i mean is, the 3 reform candidates in my ward have different number of votes, as do the 3 greens, 3 lib dems etc. If everyone picked 3 you'd expect them to pick 3 from the same party. A lot of people obviously didn't select 3 like tou were allowed to do

@david_hollas The council website still shows the old councillors & I'm keen to know who is representing us. the ballot paper was v.confusing as you could vote for up to 3 people. If everyone voted along party lines you'd expect each 1 to have the same votes but they don't. Dilutes the vote.

I've spent the day going through every single Gateshead councillor and this is what I found. 52 YEARS OF LABOUR CONTROL. ENDED IN ONE NIGHT. On 8 May 2026, Reform UK took control of Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council. Labour had held it for 52 years without interruption. The 38 Reform councillors who will now make decisions about social care, planning, housing, roads and public services across Gateshead have one thing in common. Almost none of them have ever done this before. They are shipping managers, aesthetics clinic operators, engineers, veterans, small business owners and local residents who had simply had enough. That is not a criticism. That is the point Reform made to voters and voters responded to it. But Gateshead is not a protest vote. It is a metropolitan borough council with a budget of hundreds of millions of pounds, statutory duties to vulnerable residents, and decisions that affect real lives every single day. The question is not whether these people mean well. The question is whether Reform UK has prepared them for what comes next. We will be watching.

@geordiejosh I thought Joelinton was man of the match today. Had a really good game. I like Ramsey though and see no reason not play both.

NEW: — The Labour left are in a panic this morning amid fears that they have accidentally increased the chances of Wes Streeting becoming prime minister. — Supporters of Andy Burnham have desperately tried to get Catherine West to back down from precipitating a contest before he is eligible. She has refused. — Burnham allies say if a contest is triggered this week it will be between Streeting and Anglea Rayner, and that they are very worried Rayner’s opponents will be able to brief stories to the media to blow up Rayner’s campaign, clearing his path to No10. — John McDonnell has come out against West, warning that people “in the shadows,” read Streeting, will benefit from her challenge. — There is real anger on the left at how Burnham-Miliband-Haigh have handled their orderly transition move over the last few days because they think they have incompetently opened the door to Streeting. — One Labour left figure points to what they see as nightmare outcome: a contest triggered next week, Streeting v Rayner is the choice, then there is a concerted media campaign to destroy Rayner during the contest that leaves Streeting as the only viable candidate. — Another Labour left figure says current events make it “much, much more likely” than previously thought that Streeting could become PM.
