AI is changing the software engineering craft. Anders Hejlsberg (@ahejlsberg) - creator of C#, TypeScript and industry legend - on why code review needs to get more enjoyable in response: #1 - AI is shifting the craft from writing code, to reviewing code: "In a sense, we're all turning into project managers. We can have an army of junior programmers, called agents, that will just spit out reams of code but someone's got to have the big picture and review all of that. And so, increasingly, our craft is going from one of writing the code, to one of reviewing the code and building the architecture of the code and overseeing the work. It's a different kind of craft. It's a different kind of enjoyment. I've always liked writing the code. To me that was the fulfilling part, seeing it work. In a way, AI robs a little bit of that, because I am less interested in reviewing code." #2 - The code review experience should be improved: "I think we could also make the process of reviewing code much more interesting than it is today. I mean, today, you see a list of diffs in alphabetical order and now it's up to you to make heads or tails of it. There are more pedagogical ways of presenting that. And you could have commentary generated by the AI that tells you what the changes are and whatever, and then tries to guide you along. So that symbiotic relationship, I think we need to work on that more and to keep the enjoyment in there."

It is a shame that the simple act of transferring a large block of data as fast as possible over the internet is not handled effectively by the primitive operating system calls. You either multiplex over parallel persistent TCP connections to combat head-of-line blocking and slow starts, or reinvent reliable delivery and flow control over UDP. QUIC has a lot going for it, but it is a large library (six figure LoC!) and conflates security and performance in a way I don’t love. There is also fundamental information about competition with other processes and link layer congestion that should be useful, but is unavailable to user libraries. You should be able to just write(really_big_buffer) and it is all taken care of for you.

We’re adding new ways for people to identify AI-generated images and understand where they came from. In addition to C2PA Content Credentials, images now also contain a SynthID watermark, and can be identified using a public verification tool to check whether an image was made by OpenAI products. openai.com/index/advancin…

JavaScript has: npm install Flutter has: flutter pub add But in Java, adding dependencies still means: searching Maven Central copying XML pasting into pom.xml checking versions manually So I built JPM CLI ☕️ Now you can run: "jpm add postgres." github.com/israelglory/jpm

Taking a different approach to strong arming AI. The approach i’m taking would be pattern based. I strive to recognize patterns in everything i do. I should be able to document my thought process and then teach my LLM to do the same. Goal is to give it any task and sort of allow it to think through it like i would. What would i ask, what would i check for, where have we done this before? What do i not want to do again? I have downloaded obsidian because i know this would be a bunch of md files. Would be back when i have something.

Claude code in app is more usable and user friendly. Claude code in terminal is faster. I use both together depending on what i want to do in a particular codebase. If it involve me highlighting a section of the codebase, i just use the terminal. If not, i use the app itself.

The real world still hasn’t updated its definition of productivity because we still associate real work to visible struggle and AI obscures that struggle. Hence, we start looking for other makers or signal of value like input and judgement. The tension between judging a work on the merit of active authorship vs passive generation will still continue for a while until the (generated) outcome becomes very human-like and it will happen (there is no incentive to stop improving AI) There may be argument people will still care for the process but that will fall in the face of capitalism 😂. And we will need frameworks and vocabulary for evaluating directional skills, because we refine output, we set constraint…even while using the AI. We will all soon be like film directors, who don’t hold the camera but decides the outcome.
That HR Babe!@Qu_Estique

I hope you guys know that recruiters can identify a CV that was directly downloaded from Claude AI, huh??! Continue!
