@ChrisGr93091552 Oh I generally agree that the notion that a function takes N arguments but returns none or one value is a bit anachronistic. This may very well be a real issue in more modern codebases. I was just wondering about the practical implications in the general case.

@ChrisGr93091552 I would have thought that this is less of an issue with inlining - shouldn't this result in "optimal" register usage? So if this was the case, hot code (inlined) wouldn't be a problem and cold code wouldn't be either because going thru memory shouldn't have a big impact on perf.

"Liebe Ärzte" z.B. halte ich für völlig ausreichend - habe es persönlich nie auf Männer begrenzt. "Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren" hingegen ist Standard. Muss man ja auch nicht im jeden Satz doppeln.

Gendern weicht Gehirne auf. Der Herr General erklärt wichtigtuerisch, dass er gendere. Tatsächlich redet er seine Soldaten mit „Soldatinnen und Soldaten“ an. Die Nutzung beider Geschlechtsformen unter Zuerstnennung der Damen ist allerdings Jahrhunderte alt. Normal! @RvonButler

@iquilezles I would move all functions into base. There is no standard way of doing what you ask for and all hacks should be avoided if the solution is so simple, imho.

Aber sie helfen ebenso, Miete und Instandhaltung zu finanzieren. So lange die Miete nicht ebenfalls korrigiert wird sind Verluste zu erwarten.

@GrandmasterTru @tagesschau "Programmierung" der Inhalte macht ein Content Manager in einem Baukastensystem so nebenbei. Klar müssen die Systeme gebaut und gewartet werden, aber durch das nächtliche abschalten würden erstmal keine Arbeitsplätze verloren gehen. Geht ja nur um eine zeitliche Begrenzung.

To be honest I hate fucking autocompletes, autoformats, autowhatevers. I just want to type. IDEs were necessary for Java crap (import shit) but they just annoy me with pseudo-usability.

@SebAaltonen @ougi_washi I mean.. don't you *always* define auto values with an initializer? I don't get the OPs problem. The type is right there. auto without initializer is valid only for replacing what is normally done with 'template <typename>' syntax, which is very useful for generic lambdas.

@ougi_washi std::function isn't that long. Lambdas of course need auto, since you can't type their type. But that's fine since you define the type in the right hand side. No need to repeat that info in the left hand side.

I use auto only when I declare the type on the right hand side (= constructor()). Or in cases where it's obvious (such as iterators). Saving characters when writing code is only worth it when it doesn't make the reading experience worse. Code is witten once, read N times.

@mwesterdahl76 Can you give an example? Unless 'auto' is used as a replacement for 'template <typename T>' how can it be declared in another file? auto always requires explicit initialization directly on the right hand side.

Using someone elses C++ code, and yet again, "auto" is the opposite of helpful. I wanted to print a value, but as it was only declared as "auto", I had to open another file, find the function, and look up the type. Turns out the value was an "int"...

@gedaliap Bit code. I always think I got it sorted out and end up printing binary digits until I facepalm and finally use the right combination of and, or, xor, invert, etc. Makes me furious
