I have for a long time said that a part of Iranian society (especially diaspora) suffer from a deep identity crisis and we are observing this in action.
The reason they are now world leading in nose jobs is very much connected to why they distance themselves from their traditional attires (never been to a Persian wedding with anyone wearing these, except minorities) and from religion and why they wave Israeli flags on their own protests: they associate these patterns with being "European" and modern in contrast to oriental backwardness. (This group is now clueless to why Europeans are trying to revive Christianity or support Palestine)
Of course, you can't eradicate these stuff without having to fill it with some other identity and that's where the new soup is made of monarchism, Zoroastrianism and Cyrus the great. They want to imagine an identity completely outside of their neighbors (they don't want any association to backward people like Afghans, Arabs, Turks, Kurds, Uzbeks etc.) and the history of the region, except an imagined mythical age.
It's cringe, like watching an old man trying to dress like a teenager: for westerners, you're only an "arab", and for your neighbors, you're mentally ill.

Okay time to admit that most jobs exist to keep people busy not to produce value
So many industries are just elaborate systems for moving money around while people sit in chairs and pretend the work matters
And everyone kind of knows this but saying it out loud breaks the spell
So you have millions of people performing importance knowing that if they disappeared nothing would change except some meetings would get shorter
It's almost as if the economy runs on the shared hallucination that productivity is happening

By 2030 nobody will have a job and the entire population will just be sitting at home scrolling reels all day

Accurate. I am hoping to find something good but all I see is despair. The superstition is exacerbated by hopelessness of course.
I hope these videos can give my students and Western friends a window into Iranian life that is more genuine than the media portrayal.
