Worth pointing out that only around 12% of people in Britain go to Christian Churches once a month or more. Around 30% of us say we don’t believe in any god. Right wing activists are obviously making a bigger claim on this in order to create hostility towards Muslim folks but facts are facts.

Had my mother been alive today- she would have loved to have seen this. As a sikh immigrant to this country- she was acutely aware of showing utmost respect. She loved the story of Jesus and would always watch Jesus movies at Easter and weep at how much he suffered on the cross.

@SassySinny Hitler, Stalin, Chairman Mao, Pol Pot. Hardly helps prop up your silly theory does it. All people are flawed. Christians, Muslims, atheists alike. No one group can claim a monopoly although those four people cited above gave it a good go.

I’m not sure most people realise that Douglas Murray’s only formal qualification is a third class bachelors degree in English Literature. By his own standards he isn’t qualified to talk about foreign policy, immigration, or Islam - all of which he’s built his career on.

@Heccles94 Making things and selling services creates wealth. Sometimes those products come from companies owned by billionaires. Sometimes not. Taxes create no wealth.

Billionaires do not create jobs. Stop saying it. Without billionaires, we would still build things, design things, teach things, sell things, buy things. Billionaires capitalise profits. That's it.

The King may not have given you an Easter message but I have one for you: God isn’t real. Humans have been praying for millennia and if we search through the history books there is no redemption arc, no saviour and no possibility that your ‘creator’ loves you. Happy Easter.

I’m getting married in June, so we’ve been going to church for ~18 months. I came as a rigid atheist, but without noticing it slowly had a profoundly positive impact on me. Quiet reflection, compassion, rootedness. I wouldn’t knock it ✝️

If you use your faith as a weapon to bash those of other faiths, I suggest you’re not a Christian at all. Funny how so many people suddenly insisting the UK is a Christian country all have one thing in common, their hatred of Muslims. You’re performative Christians. Nothing more.

Most Christians were not in Trafalgar Square but were in church for the Good Friday Liturgy. A solemn but hugely moving event. This is where the heartbeat of Christianity belongs. That heartbeat seems to be getting a little louder as the Christian consciousness of the nation slowly reawakens. Deus gratias.

Notice how Muslims have zero issues with Christians taking over Trafalgar Square today? No Muslims disturbed the event, no Muslims had anything negative to say about Christians getting on with their worship. Big contrast to a few weeks ago when social media and extremist politicians in Reform and the Tories were going crazy during Eid. My only conclusion is that us Muslims are an inherently more tolerant lot.

King Charles is doing almost exactly what Queen Elizebeth did for Easter every year but of course our UK white nationalists are pretending otherwise so that they can create more hate.

@Random_Nobody_1 @DocAhmadMalik Why? Because we have failed to invest sufficiently to replace aging power stations; because lead times for nuclear are lengthy; and because intermittent sources of supply require back up.

@McGillPatterson @DrJohnPinheiro @JeremyTate41 @ThomasDHowes Good point. I think the potential for mere cultural Christianity is overstated. Christ himself told us to be the salt of the earth and that strongly suggests that mere ceremony and form are not enough. But in Spain Semana Santa really does touch something deeper in us.

@GrattidgeIan @DrJohnPinheiro @JeremyTate41 @ThomasDHowes That's true. There's an interesting optionality to real attendance with the notion that one is ethnically part of the society. But, for political scientists, religious attendance is important! It correlates with behaviors that are quite distinct from "cultural" believers.
