@jeffash26 Bobby Bell was fantastic! An absolute comedian upon arrival but then serious and moving when we got down to the heavy topics. I learned so much, and I'm so grateful for his time and insights.

@GraySapp Bobby Bell was most gracious in a brief interview in Canton in 2013, when one of his peers -- Packers great Dave Robinson -- was inducted. Will always remember that.

60 years ago today: the 1965 AFL All-Star game, relocated from New Orleans to Houston by player boycott. A sloppy game. 7 turnovers (2 on the same play). 5 missed field goals. 7 total rushing yards for the East. Lopsided score of 38-14... But a clinic in civil rights activism.

55 years ago today: Super Bowl IV at Tulane Stadium, Chiefs v. Vikings. The historian in me still kinda wants to see a rematch when New Orleans hosts again in four weeks.

Today is the 60th anniversary of the AFL All-Star walkout in New Orleans, and I couldn’t be happier to announce a Feb. 3 event at the Tulane Center for Sport, hosting Hall of Famers Bobby Bell and Ron Mix in a conversation about the 1965 boycott and the power of athletics.

60 years ago today: the AFL All-Stars boycotted New Orleans to protest racial discrimination. Launching a surge in civil rights progress, locals soon earned their own pro team through civic unity, and the Saints fanbase was born as the one-of-a-kind force that it remains today.
