@andyrumming Funny enough I saw first one yesterday too. Wonder how the season is going to look for them this year with the weather. We had thousands last year
English

I know predicting weather isn’t easy & contains random variables but seriously @metoffice 3 different predictions of rain tomorrow at 15:00 for same location (website & app on 2 different devices)?! Wasn’t expecting how you access the forecast to be one of the random variables!

@herdyshepherd1 I don’t know if you use linked in, but there is a chap called Howard Dryden from the Roslin Institute who shares a lot about his work on how toxic chemicals are killing off plankton - which maintain the oceans surface layer. The impacts it will have are pretty disastrous.
English

@howemill And while we’re on this did you see Outback Farmers? Growing hay on centre pivots in the desert from a non renewable aquifer to feed beef cattle to export to the UK ………….
English

It is bizarre that food production (which keeps us alive) gets more pressure to reduce its footprint than fast fashion, totally unnecessary flights for holidays, the film industry & motorsports.
I’m not saying we don’t have a part to play but the legislative focus seems warped.

“There are certain emissions (from food production) that we cannot do without & others where more significant emission cuts can be made without affecting the essentials of life… The real threat to farmers’ future prosperity lies in the very food chain they form the basis of.”

Thank you to @BBCFarmingToday for featuring my farmsneaker.com workshops on today’s show as part of their “materials “ week bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…
The enquiries started rolling in before breakfast. #regenleather #pastureforlife

@1GarethWynJones It would be really helpful if you made the future that you are fighting for clearer. There's little talk about HOW to help wellbeing, climate and nature recover AND keep happy farmers on thriving farms. More of that please.
English

@AnnieJo80051383 @CoedYGo @1GarethWynJones Farmland birds have declined by 63% since 1970 due to habitat destruction from changes in agriculture nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/…
ALL industries need to change. As farmers we are not exempt from this.
Conventional ag has also degraded soils and depleted nutrition levels in food.
English

@CoedYGo @1GarethWynJones Why should it change? It is plain to see for any intelligent folk that Net Zero is a lie. Carbon is needed for all life
Consider this :
10 million people board aeroplanes each day . This evidence Proves the lie that is so called 'net zero '.
English

@herdyshepherd1 I would add that trees give so much to land - even in good pasture trees can massively increase forage for livestock, provide shelter in weather extremes and improve the water cycle. We don’t need to feel nervous about adding trees into good pasture.
English

@lynnema01154666 @1GarethWynJones @Amanwy @WelshLabour Trees and habitat isn’t set aside?? Agroforestry isn’t set aside. Wood pasture isn’t set aside. Species rich grassland isn’t set aside. These are all actions which support nature and livestock grazing. These habitats will make a farm more resilient to unpredictable weather.
English

@1GarethWynJones @Amanwy Please make his post make sense, he does not require farmers to give up 20% of their land but if 20% of your land is not set aside for trees and habitat @WelshLabour will withhold all subsidies. @Amanwy the people of Wales are simple people but they are not idiots.
English

Why didn’t you address the crowd that came to share our frustrations with your Government? You watched from the background @Amanwy but now happy to be vocal ?

English

@suepritch I agree Sue. I don’t see why 10% of land with trees and 10% of land for habitat means it’s out of production. Agroforestry has huge capability to support livestock farms & make them more resilient, and you can feed sheep and cattle on species rich wildflower meadows.
English

@Leftwood @herdyshepherd1 We’d agree with everything James has written here 💯
English

@herdyshepherd1 How representative of UK farmers are you?

Delivered two cattle to Long Compton abattoir on Wednesday, which could be my last visit. However hopefully not - read hear to find out how you can help save it longcomptonabattoir.co.uk

@Ryann_Raisinhol When it is that cold we struggle, particularly as blue pipes are overground. We aim to get the cows back to a fixed trough if we can't manually bring water in. Last resort is fixed troughs we leave water flowing if we can but even had them freeze up
English

@PhilipCaseFW @SoilAssociation @ORFC Nice and close for the opening plenary. You didn't happen to get a photo of my wife speaking did you? Katie, was in a white shirt, dark trousers talking about regen farming and fibre? I couldn't make it so couldn't get a decent photo. Thanks
English

'In an election year, it's important that politicians recognise we need to invest in our farms, in nature for the future... and society will thank us" @SoilAssociation CEO Helen Browning tells @ORFC #ORFC24 #ORFC
