Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church claim to be the "one true Church." Both say private interpretation is insufficient to determine truth in matters of faith and morals. Both require submission to their respective magisterium. Both claim apostolic succession. So here’s my question: If both make the exact same claims, and we’re told we cannot use personal judgment or interpretation to decide which is true, how are we supposed to know which one to submit to? Both cannot be right if there's only one "true Church."

@Thevine_ntwk I disagree with your statement. Who are we to decide if someone is a "terrible" person? The Word of God is a weapon against the enemy, not against people. It offends people living in sin, and it offends sin itself.

@MitchMi68122792 @TheMuppetPastor You may remember it (I understand this first hand), but it's now an opportunity for the power of God to be on display, because you can recall it without it having power over you. 1 John 4:4 "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."

@TheMuppetPastor I know, been there. But, it is a thing about the human brain and its recall powers for images, especially ones that touch our pleasure center, that can't really be done away with. After over 50 years, I can still bring to mind the first Playboy centerfold I saw.

Many people have reached out to me over this and I am so…honored and proud. There are so many men and women battling against pornography right now. Often alone. They can’t ask for help but they’re showing up to fight. Pray for them. The struggle is real. But with God, all things are possible. Be proud of those who’ve decided to fight back against sin in their lives and are done making excuses. We might not know all their names, but it doesn’t matter. God does. They struggle in silence, but they aren’t alone.
Skeletor 🧼🧽🫧@TheMuppetPastor

If you’re addicted to porn, I don’t judge you. I am not better than you. I’ve seen all that garbage, and I sadly know how damaging it is. But you don’t need to live as an addict, and today can be the first hour of sobriety. You can and will be happy again. It is possible.

@IronBullForge76 @WWUTTcom What's this... a reasonable take? Well said! Don't see many of those on here. I've and heard firsthand similar experiences as what you describe. And I don't see anything in the show that actually points people away from Christ.

You’re right that 2 Timothy 4:3-4 is a serious warning. People will turn away from sound doctrine and chase myths that suit their preferences. We should take that seriously. But applying it to The Chosen requires more than just asserting it. The claim needs evidence. What actual doctrine is the show teaching people to abandon? Which myths is it leading them into? Most of the testimonies I’ve heard (and some I’ve seen firsthand) go the other direction: people who never read the Gospels start reading them. People who treated Jesus as a vague moral teacher begin taking His claims seriously. Many come to genuine repentance and faith. Others who already believed find their affection for Christ deepened and start studying Scripture more carefully. That doesn’t make the show inspired or perfect. It’s a dramatization with creative liberties, added dialogue, and narrative choices. Some of those choices are better than others. Fair criticism of specific scenes or emphases is legitimate. Treating the show as if it is Scripture would be foolish. But calling the whole thing a vehicle for myths that lead people away from the truth is a much stronger charge, and it needs more than a Bible verse and a skeptical tone to stick. Paul’s warning is against rejecting the apostolic gospel for something else. If The Chosen is causing people to reject the real Jesus of Scripture, show me. If it’s mainly causing people to open their Bibles and take Jesus more seriously, then your criticism doesn’t fit.

"'The Chosen' is changing so many people's lives!" Sure, it is. How many of them is it leading away from the truth as they wander off into myths? (2 Timothy 4:4)

You should not hate men like @CoreyJMahler. You can be respectful. You can be kind. And you can still firmly refuse to be led by them. “Correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 2:25

@LizzieMarbach I think you meant to say: if a pastor isn't validly ordained by a direct line of succession from the apostles they should be disqualified from ministry.

@LizzieMarbach Every pastor and preist on this earth commits blasphemy against the Holy Spirit every time they stand in the pulpit and preach. Not one pastor or priest has the authority to preach under the power of the Holy Spirit. Christianity is a pagan religion.

Evangelicals don’t hate statues of Our Lady because they think they’re idols. They hate them because they hate Our Lady. They hate her perpetual virginity. They hate her immaculate conception. They hate that she is the crown of all creation and that Her Son has made her Queen. Evangelical women in particular hate Her because Jesus loves Her more than them.

@TheMuppetPastor As someone set free from sexual addiction (thank you Jesus!), I would agree with you. It's not as black and white as Justin Peters likes to make most things. It removes the redemptive power of Christ, and who are we to even attempt that?

I 💯 agree with Justin Peters that unrepentant porn use is disqualifying for a pastor. I don’t agree with a permanent ban, however, if someone sought help and repented. The sad reality of our modern world is that everyone 60 and younger has been groomed from birth to use porn. What?! How could I say this? If you have participated in pop culture at all, from TV to film, you’ve been trained to think sexually and look at bodies. Sure, some of us have guarded our eyes better than others. Wanton porn use is different than occasional TV viewing. But none of us have entirely escaped sex being sold unless we’re Amish/Mennonite. I do not enjoy saying this, but it’s very true. Men and women are no exception, and in fact, as high as 40% of women also use pornography. Likely more if they include smutty books. So the reality is that many porn addicted are doing exactly what entertainment has programmed them to do. Breaking free from this drug is no small matter. And many of us were exposed to things against our will. Mind you: this is sin. And porn use is a sin in the category Paul listed in 1 Corinthians 6; as in, “will not inherit the kingdom of God”. I see that as damnable if a person refuses to repent from it. But I also have a great degree of mercy for millions of addicts because this drug was pushed upon us for years. It was an easy sin to fall for unless we completely shut off all forms of TV and film. So if a pastor was addicted to porn, I find it hard to permanently condemn him, not because I excuse the sin, but because I know it’s rampant and I recognize grooming. I would forgive anyone who truly repented and stopped practicing, and yes, that means I’d forgive relapses as long as they don’t lead to future addictions. Finally, I’d rather have pastors who feel free to seek help for porn addiction without fear of losing their career than those who work hard to hide it for fear of losing it all.
Lizzie Marbach@LizzieMarbach

While @jonharris1989 and @JustinPetersMin discuss the possibility of permanent disqualification from ministry, Justin says that if a pastor watches porn, he is permanently disqualified. I completely agree. What do you guys think?

@DanielvsBabylon If you're saved, there's no need to be pestered by it. Send it away, in Jesus's name. If it was a demon... gone! If "the thing" (whatever it is) is still there, then you're most likely battling your flesh. This is usually way more difficult, tbh.

@MagnusAlder9000 @SillyOldPops @sovmindset No need to do good deeds FOR salvation. Once saved, we are to live in obedience to God, which often requires good deeds. James 2:26 "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." After salvation, it's what "living our faith" looks like. Go with God!
