The White House is trying to come up with some grand idea/Manhattan project that will unite and inspire Americans. This is not it. In the end, we don't gain enough from this venture to justify the high costs (and potential loss of lives). We should instead focus our resources on slowing or reversing aging. Age-related conditions and diseases cost our economy trillions of dollars every year and cause immense suffering. We now have (or soon will have) the tools to intervene in this process and significantly reduce aging's costs to society. We currently lack the will and the resources to do so in a timely manner. The White House can eliminate these issues by designating age-related diseases as enemy number one and devoting the requisite resources to defeat our greatest foe.
