Word of the week: force majeure. All eyes are on oil markets, but insurance and trade dynamics are also going kaboom.

One of the most common, constant complaints I get from 100s of Greeks each year: Embassies and Consulates that do not respond, have no appointments available or take forever to process documents. It shouldn’t be like this. This needs to be fixed. @GreeceMFA @GreeceInGermany

🇬🇷 Do I know anyone working for the Greek government? I have been trying to get in contact with the consulate here in Berlin and phones don't work and emails are sending me from 1 department to another for weeks now. A warm intro would help ...

@JamesConran1 Yes. And Sanchez very selectively opted to ignore those committed continuously by the Iranian regime. Or even mention any of the indiscriminate attacks across MENA, even some that reached a British base in Cyprus. One could argue that’s not just equidistance, but something more.

This would all be fine as a theoretical response in Model UN. But other than very vague remarks about how we all want world peace, what is the *actual* suggestion of PES and the Spanish government in responding to this very real crisis affecting almost everyone?
PES 🌹🇪🇺@PES_PSE

❌ We will not be intimidated by unacceptable threats. 🇪🇸 Our full support for @sanchezcastejon and for #Spain. Standing up for international law, multilateralism, and Europe’s strategic autonomy is our shared duty - and we will stand firm. While we remain unequivocal in our condemnation of the Iranian regime’s oppression of its people, we must hold fast to the principles upon which the EU was built. #Trump #Iran #InternationalLaw @giacomofilibeck

@GreekAnalyst End the war is perfectly tangible even if the aggressor parties aren’t going to listen to him. Would being as “helpful” (Trump’s term) as Merz bring the war to an end quicker?

@JamesConran1 Nothing in his statements offers a tangible path towards crisis resolution. So far, it is just a combination of wishful thinking and “anti-imperialist” language targeting the US and Israel. Not sure how that is helpful at all.

@jitorreblanca What is exactly the alternative proposed by the Spanish government? I am genuinely curious because so far we have only seen bizzare abstract proclamations and yet we are faced with a very real crisis that affects the EU too (whether Spanish leadership wants to accept it or not).

However, now they demand Europeans to blindly follow them into a war against Iran and threatens us if we do not follow. So, Spain is just telling the US this is NOT the way relations which Europe should work. I wish other European governments would say the same.

Spain is a sovereign country — not a colony or a protectorate. • US bases in Spain are not US sovereign territory. Their use must reflect the bilateral interests of both countries. • Spain remains a loyal NATO ally, with troops deployed in Latvia, Turkey, Lebanon, and Iraq
