@TheFund47 @itsnotover1611 Lmao, classic you’re stuck seeing everything through money and the market. My OG assessment that you’re retarded checks out.

@sbkaufman I think the take here is that with AI by your side, you will push forward until you find a new impasse. If you just watch it generate stuff you will engage in no creativity and get bored instantly.

I don't know why I'm so resistant to using AI. Everyone tells me Claude is amazing, and I can do so much with it. I don't want to make things easier. I want to struggle for my creativity. I like going through an impasse, and then having an insight. Will AI make it unfulfilling?

@adhee1673 @itsnotover1611 An economic system is the very framework that determines how cost-benefit analyses are made and acted on. Your "planned system" will have to decide HOW services will be distributed based on need. You can't do what without markets. The system will always be a Mixed Economy.

@heyshrutimishra At absolutely ZERO damage to marine life, no pollution,right..? Chinese are known to pollute without care to anyone else.Base water of China,70% of it, is so polluted even after cleaning it can not be used as a household water.

China deployed a 1,300-ton data center on the ocean floor off the coast of Hainan. No cooling towers or air conditioning. Just cold seawater doing the job for free. The result? Cooling costs drop from ~50% of total energy to under 10%.

My hot take is that TV did actually rot a lot of brains, video games were significantly worse, smartphones worse still, and AI far worse than all the rest. Just because the apocalypse hasn't come doesn't mean you can't open your eyes and see we're now running toward it.
Henry Shevlin@dioscuri

When I was a kid, people said television was eroding society and corrupting the youth. Since then we’ve had the same story for videogames, smartphones, social media, and now AI. Not to deny these technologies have all *changed* society, but the apocalypticism never quite pans out

By the time I am 65, over $600,000 will be paid into Social Security on my behalf. That money would have been worth $1.9 million if I had gotten a 5% return. My annual interest would be $95k. The government promises me $3,075/month at age 67, which is $37k/year. HOW IS THIS NOT THEFT??

If you're posting PBs at the age of 50, it's because you didn't optimize that particular metric when you were 25. I can't think of any physical quality that can be better at 50 than when you were younger. It's great to be fitter or stronger in old age than you were when you were younger, but you are still systemically older. You're improving within reduced bandwidth.

@nimlot26 @ObviousRises I can bet my house it is not touching to a single texture nor "calculating" any lighting in engine, it's literally an overlay that generates based on what it sees and previous frames. You comparing Ray traced in engine lighting to this garbage tells a lot.

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

@0x44_ @BellikOzan I am not really young nor do I have bad memory. I just don’t buy this cynical negativity porn that people love to indulge in. This is the best time to be alive by every imaginable metric for the majority of people on this planet. The rest is unsubstantiated nonsense.

@TheFund47 @BellikOzan You do you. Maybe you're really young or have a bad memory, but we've been in decline ever since, with quality dropping as well as the number required to produce, which is no coincidence.

Adobe CEO resigns, most likely due to Adobe floundering amidst the AI wave. IMO Adobe made a big mistake leaning hard into generative AI. Their userbase hate it. They will thrive if they reject gen AI, and return to putting humans first. That should be the focus of the next CEO

Adobe announced that Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narayen will resign from his position atop the creative software giant amid deep skepticism about the company’s ability to thrive in the AI era bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

@taipan168 @starman8888 Not really. “High salary” is meant to express that it’s more than enough. That combined with the lack of stress makes it “better”.
