It's narcissism disguised as empathy. They will never take action or say things that have a cost to them personally. If you have ever heard these type of people say "the self is political": this is the result of that mindset. It is totalitarianism: the idea that all actions you take, regardless of circumstance, are indicative of your true political alignment. Thus, every single action, purchase, activity, sentence, thought, and choice you take must be first viewed through whether or not it is politically acceptable to your party. It is the ultimate form of political extremism, and hideously toxic to being normal. Good on you for noping out of that. You don't have to tolerate that in your entertainment.
