Most of the Gripes people have with these data centers have theoretically been dealt with. My main concern that's not been addressed is that these will be built in more rural areas. Then, instead of prioritizing hiring locals, they will bring in cheap foreign labor (H1B). Those H1Bs will bring along their families. This means that not only do the locals get no new jobs, but they will have to watch their existing local job market and housing market get devastated. They will largely be outcompeted and be forced watch helplessly as their rural town is colonized by foreigners.

I’ve looked into this very minimally, so I’m genuinely asking. Why are people opposing data centers so hard? My gut feeling is it’s hippies opposing nuclear power 2.0, but I’m willing to be convinced otherwise.

Fulton Sheen spoke of how modern revolutionaries derive or mirror their motivations from the teachings of St. Just. They think nothing of building up, of growth, of prosperity. They only think of destruction, of violence, and of tearing down those who are in power. There is no "after" to these people: there is only the "revolution" itself.

Postmodern stories like The Boys can never have a good ending. Why? Because you can never have the restoration of order. Power will always have more "oppression" to unmask. But this is what makes Tolkien brilliant. Yes, power can corrupt, but not all power is "Ring-shaped."

@Romans8Shaman @SexualYeti Ironically they are. Nothing they do is out of malice. It's purely genetics and instinct. They have no conscious concept of their actions. It is only evil to believe that humans should emulate them because of some farcical and misguided comparisons to Communism or pure Democracy

"Ugh, only humans wage war on each other" ~Some 14 year old "Let the seas boil! Let the stars fall!" ~Tortoise after his leaf is eaten by another tortoise over a century ago
Nature Unedited@NatureUnedited

These two giant tortoises have been fighting each other for over 120 years. According to the zoo, one tortoise stole the other’s food 120 years ago, and from that day on they became enemies. There hasn’t been a single day where they haven’t fought for a while

@Colonel_Kitteh @albertoberry18 @SexualYeti Exactly. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to anthropomorphise animals/insects. Lots of human political systems involve top-down authoritarianism and you can find similarities with any of them. In the 40k topic, it’s as pointless as anthropomorphising tyranids

I don't think they fit the traditional definition because they have an enforced caste-system and hereditary monarchy, which is decidedly not a classless society. However: they are definitely just as bloodthirsty as Communists. I'd say the most precise definition of ant society is a "tribal gavelkind absolute caste-based slave monarchy". Their society emulates certain behaviors that look like Communism... but that's because it's basically a slave society and Communism is just slavery with extra steps. This reminds me of that retarded propaganda from Ant Man Quantomania. The mere notion that ant society was something humans should EVER attempt to emulate is laughably anti-humanitarian, and borderline traitorous.

Definitely branch out bro. There's nothing better than finding some tiny Italian place run by a sweet old couple that have run the place for 30+ years and the husband is always whipping up a weekly special. Do an hour of searching online near you, or ask some friends if the know the local area well.

@Blerpus @KirscheVerstahl @ironpotate Apologies, I should have specified. There are like 13 Amhersts in the country or something. I guarantee you could find some hole-in-the-wall Italian place near you though. It's NY after all.

The more I dig into the Subnautica discourse, the more I'm realizing that the universe is just incompetently written. "Yes, we know there are giant monsters who can rip through tungsten like paper, but you can't shoot it because there was a genocide 400 years ago and guns bad."

Which... is interesting because the developers themselves seem to be unable to comprehend that guns are not evil, at least their PR side. So either the game writers & designers are secretly pro-gun and deliberately made the lack of a true weapon as visibly frustrating as possible, or they are anti-gun and also anti-human... which results in a game that treats human life like it's worthless.

@Colonel_Kitteh @PhantasmBlast @NobodyIsOurGuy My impression so far is that the game's story is intended to deconstruct it's own themes intentionally. The failure of the colony has a lot to do with hostile aliens and at least one traitor doing homicide presumably with hand crafted weapons.

@Colonel_Kitteh @vivovinco @NobodyIsOurGuy Krafton has nothing to do with its development; This is entirely the devs of Unknown Worlds; Krafton simply funded them and wants the game to fail. I despise UW, but I adore Subnautica.

@vivovinco @PhantasmBlast @NobodyIsOurGuy True... but then you could argue that Krafton accidentally made a great criticism of their own anti-gun beliefs. Alterra being anti-gun is anti-human at its core, proven by the totality of the scenario that the game presents.
