I thought Indy would be Iowa on steroids but its been a terrible experience as a fan. Year 1, they failed to protect her while outside narratives and race discourse spiraled. Year 2, they tried to frame her injury as a blessing. Year 3, fans have to beg for transparency.

I agree. Black athletes aren't disposable. They also aren't the property of the SEC. In the age of NIL, there are other — more profitible & safer — alternitives for Black althletes. Why should they be in states/programs that don't care abt them outside of their athletic prowess??

I support fighting for civil rights and institutional accountability. What I do not support is asking young Black men to sacrifice life changing educational and athletic opportunities to make political statements while powerful institutions, donors, and executives risk nothing themselves. Black athletes are not disposable political tools.

I don't get the "gotcha" of falling Indy attend numbers because the only thing it's showing is that the fans there are fans of a player, and not a team. Which fair, but it's not an indictment of the league itself or overall popularity when attendance numbers are great elsewhere.

Fever should be as transparent as possible due to Caitlin Clark’s star power and in fairness to fans. But it’s also worth pointing out Clark is a part of this process. She’s talked about overcoming mental hurdles of injuries so not surprising if she’s being extra cautious.

2 years ago the WNBA had its first bona fide box office star in Caitlin Clark.
Her team, the Indiana Fever, had to move its games into massive venues, and charge hundreds of dollars for tickets in response to demand to see her play.
Even today, out of jersey sales for ALL basketball players, hers are second only to NBA star Steph Curry...meaning she sells even more jerseys than guys like Lebron James.
But with the hype came extra scrutiny on a league that was clearly unprepared for the big time, and more interested in identity politics than in growth.
Before, the story was about a generational talent.
Now it's becoming about a generational fumble.
I've never seen anything like it.
