Rhododendron nuttallii. One of the largest flowers, & very fragrant, tho with decidedly musky overtones (like a barn). Probably pollenated by big subtropical moths. Foothills of eastern Himalaya at modest altitudes; fairly tender. @GregBourke3 grows them.

Our new species, " Bellevalia iranica Alipour, Eker & Majidi", which we wrote together with my colleagues Dr. Ismail Eker and Ramiar Majidi from the Zagros Mountains of Iran has entered the scientific literature as of today. phytotaxa.mapress.com/pt/article/vie…

@GregBourke3 Interesting...both the spider and the flowers would appear either greenish or as if they were under black light. Remember when black light was popular for partying? The bugs got there first.

Despite how obvious this spider is to us, many insects see the world differently, and to some, this one is almost indistinguishable from the surrounding flowers. #nature #spider #deceitful

@GregBourke3 Summertime and the smell of the lilies sounds delightful when the temperature is -20C.

@MemoryLaneRV Some see UV and greenish colours while some others have three receptors, a little more like us, but with more UV. It’s those with only two colour receptors that are particularly vulnerable.

@GregBourke3 Striking contrast to our eyes. Do the insects just see shapes?

@DankinOrchids It enjoys coolish conditions but warmer than many species. It prefers nights above 10C
