@zippytonto @TheRegencyCook Sour cherries, which really make desserts sparkle, grow quite well up here (53.5°N). The trees are just now in flower, but a little stash of frozen fruit from last year will do very nicely for this cake.

I’m hoping that my posts about historic food will reach you through all the outrage on Twitter/X. Do you think too that there should be a place for comfort posts about things that unite & don’t divide? Like buns for example?

Springtime in Alberta brings a burst of energy in the landscape. Enjoy a quiet country break at Memory Lane Campground and RV Park and spot the many signs of spring. #GardenGrewPeas

@Enzoagogo The redwings seem to stay quite close to the pond, so whatever they are getting there must be enough. It is amusing to watch them gang up and see off larger predatory birds such as the resident redtail hawk.

@MemoryLaneRV Also, the red wings will work the sunflowers all day long. The Jay's grab one or two and samper off.

Checking out the prune job on this maple. All the lower and middle removed with just the tips with foliage. A little undecided. It does feature the wood and allows one to peer throw for what is beyond, even though this is an otherwise boring scene. Some peris japonica in back.

@prairieguy2016 You would have needed to view it at a great distance. Were you anywhere near when Mt. St. Helens erupted?

Another thing to think about on Thinking Thursday! Ancient lava tubes wind across the desert landscape where 1,000’s of years ago hot, red magma once flowed. My mind paints a picture of what this very spot must have looked like. prairiewanderlust.etsy.com #photography #volcanoes #ut

Tulipa tarda lights up the garden while the "early bee" gets the pollen. #GardenGrewPeas

@Enzoagogo Speaking of wild and untamed, your shipment of redwing blackbirds has arrived . The pond is lively.

@Enzoagogo Not quite the same thing, but a friend of Icelandic heritage (from Gimli, Manitoba) mentioned that children could be routinely fostered between family units if they would be better off. This was in the context of not being able to "get along" in the birth family.

Someone donated a big box of seeds. We sowed some Ferry Morse G90 hybrid sweet corn (85 days) in an attempt at three sisters. A little early but we'll try to get the corn up before sowing beans & squash.

@Enzoagogo Those babies, raised in caring families, probably had a better chance than being raised in a household formed after a shotgun wedding.

@MemoryLaneRV 😀 before I met hildegarde, someone left a baby in the top draw of her dresser. She raised it. In those days, that's what folks did, as you know.

@Enzoagogo Is that where babies came from? The stork has been getting a bad rap -) The standing joke up here about zucchini is "don't leave your truck unlocked in season--you will come back to find the front seat filled".

@MemoryLaneRV Remember the days you may find an infant in a basket on your doorstep? Now, they put 20 lb zucchini, when your not looking. Yes, zucchini very dependable here.

@Enzoagogo Acorn, zucchini and buttercup are usually reliable. Hubbard does fairly well. Others, such as butternut, just don't get quite enough days to grow here. They are all good if the season is favourable.
