@temiinikann Because they were storytelling. Now readers expect "pictures." No imagination. No reflection. Just the same familiar "surprising" scenes, often with the same characters moving with the plot that must "twist" every ten pages or it is "boring."

when i am open to queries the vast majority of queries i get that label themselves as "literary fiction" are actually commercial fiction just a note to be very aware of the rubrics of a literary voice

When writing do you pay attention to book trends?

Many of my friends-writers get annoyed or even offended when someone mentions they did not finish a book. Then they (my friends) change channel to see a different movie.
